I'm no computer whizz so the following review can only give the opininon of everyday practical use for both work and entertainment purposes. Here is a brief spec ripped from the product page.
- 2.1 GHz ( intel dual-processor )
- RAM 3 GB
- HDD 250 GB
- DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM
- Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
- 15.6" Widescreen TFT 1366 x 768 ( WXGA )
I bought this laptop from John Lewis and thought it was the most attractive within this price range ( £300 - £450, and no that's not why i chose this one) the deisgn is very simple with a gloss black lid, metallic grey base and touchpad.
The unit feels solid and robust unlike its competitors ( similar priced toshibas, compaqs etc.) which i found to feel a little flimsy in hand.
**ease of use**
I've never bought a new laptop before and i found the set up to be incredibly quick and easy. Windows 7 was installed and ready to go after entering a few details and preferences.
The touch pad and mouse buttons are very efficient the buttons give a satisfying unmistakable click.
The keyboard has a standard layout with a seperate number pad and plenty of shortcut keys for screen, volume and dvd control.
I use the machine for processing photographs using photoshop and some basic word processing, both of which are handled with ease and absolutely no problems. I also use the laptop to watch TV on demand which works very well when i connect it to my television, unfortunately there is no hdmi output which would be convenient however the vga and headphone socket can be connected to the tv with seperate leads to great effect.
Here lies my only quarm with the aspire, once fully charged and used to do a variety of tasks the battery will only last for about 1 and a 1/2 hours so you tend to have to lug the cumbersome power cable around with you.
I've only had the Aspire for 3 months now but so far i've had no problems, physically or with the software.
Summary: a really good laptop for the price great for work or play just make sure you've got your power cord
