      Worth the money!

I'm writing this review on my new Acer Aspire, which I must say seems to be a step up for Acer. I was initially dubious about paying almost £850 for an Acer, with them traditionally known for lower end machines, but a personal recommendation from a friend seen me take the plunge.

Over the past fortnight I've had no obvious troubles with the machine, aside from the expected set up issues. One particular gripe of mine is the plethora of bundled Acer software that comes with the laptop, all of which I could easily live without.

I have carried out a number of processor intensive tasks so far, including transferring over 180 Gb of music and video, during which the processor and hard drive performed admirably. This is my first Windows 7 system, but I'll leave operating system issues aside and focus on the machine itself. To be fair it does handle Windows 7 seamlessly.

Battery life is much as expected, with a full charge giving anywhere from 2.5 hours to 4 hours depending on tasks. The case is neat and stylish, and around 3Kg won't pull the arms off you if being transported.

I'm not so sure about the fingerprint reader though. Whilst I have no use for it, the novelty value had me investigate and it didn't always recognise my hand, even though I'm the only one who has ever laid a finger on it. If you badly need a reliable fingerprint reader, it may be worth testing this one before committing.

I'm happy with my purchase, and my Acer operates 12 hours a day without problems, mostly for work but it's also well equipped to play some of the online games I see my evenings in with!
