I Have had this laptop for around 2 years now great laptop until you play a game on it Laggggggiiiiinnnnggg after say 10-15 mins of gameplay. the laptop specs is more than enough for my games why is it choppy and slow. any way searched forums and found out its a design fault within the cpu the cpu heats up to quick and forces the cpu and game to slow down. There is away to override this and that is to use rightmark cpu clock utility every time this happens. which is what i do and now im able to play cod and mass effect 1,2,3 and halflife without any problems. but if you dont play games you wont notice this. apart from this the laptop is a really good laptop and can see myself buying another acer one in the future slightly heavy but well worth the money.
Owned for just over two years, came free with a mobile broadband contract. Outstanding quality and design is the abiding description of this laptop, so much so, the 18" version which I have since brought won a European design award in 2009. Blu-ray, full 1980 HD output, dolby theatre sound, crystal clear display. It is a beautifull object in it's own right and every time I use it, I never fail to be impressed.
I've had this laptop for approx 1 year now, in general it is very good and easy to use. All the features are simple to set up and use.
The large and wide screen is good for watching DVDs and blurays but this does make the laptop quite heavy. The picture quality is excellent, we used this as a main bluray player by connecting it to our tv.
On the left of the keypad are touch sensitive controls for the media centre, these are easy to use.
One major annoyance is that occasionally when starting up the media centre loads instead, this means switching off the laptop and reloading. Sometimes this happens 3 or 4 times in a row and gets really annoying. I'm not sure how to remedy this as it seems to happen even after we uninstalled the media software.
Also the battery life is relatively poor, especially if watching dvds or playing games.
In summary, would I buy this item again, yes but to use as a replacement for a desktop computer it is too heavy to use as a laptop and carry around daily.
I got this laptop about a year ago. I was drawn to it by it's wide screen and media centre.
My favourite features are the wide screen and the many commands around the keyboard. On the left is the touch screen media centre, which I mainly use to stop/start/pause/skip/search/mute/adjust volume of my music. It can also be used to access photo's and dvds but I don't use this feature. On the right hand side there is four buttons:
1. Connect and disconnect the internet
2. Open internet (If you're on the internet it will take you to your homepage)
3. Open emails
Other features are the surround sound speakers and the picture quality.
1. We mostly have a problem with the speakers. Sometimes they randomly start to make strange noises when I am listening to something (It's like a tinny sound).
2. The other problem we have is when the laptop is first turned on it will open in the media centre folder and not close meaning we have to turn the laptop off then on again.
3. The next problem is not being able to work out how to access the numpad. There is a button to press but nothing happens.
4. Lastly the battery life is short, but as we usually have it plugged in this is not often a problem for us, and as the laptop is rather heavy I can't imagine wanting to take it out and about!
We love this laptop despite its flaws. It is easy to use and the controls around the keyboard are both useful and fun. We'd recommend it and hope you have as much fun with it as we do!
ive had this laptop for a few months now and its fantastic!! it has a huge screen which is fab for watching dvds etc, and the touchpad on the side for volume control etc is brilliant, ive found that overall it is a brill laptop, and very easy to use and the battery lasts quite a while as well depending on what you are doin, i.e if you have music on and are surfing the internet it will last about 2 hours, and for watching a film, about 1 and a half hours! it has a lot of extras on it which i am still discovering! it connects to the internet really easy which the push of a button!! also for additional security it has fingerprint recognition on it!
the only downfalls of this laptop is the size of it! it is quite heavy at just over 3kg so can be a pain if you have to travel with it alot like i do, but for such a good quality, easy to use and good looking laptop i really dont mind that!
i bought the Acer Aspire 6920 in January and i really cannot fault it so far. the audio (Dolby Home Theatre) is really superb, especially for playing music say from your itunes library, or through using Skype. The webcam is excellent too. The laptop itself is nicely styled and i like the fact that the front/top of the laptop on the Acer wording is illuminated. The only thing i could possibly fault is the mouse/finger pad, it is slightly bumpy but if you are using the laptop for more than couple of hours per day it does start to make your fnger quite sensitive. Overall i would rate this laptop highly, in fact when i did a mystery shopping assignment a couple of months back, i had to go into the shop with some specifications and with my own opinions, they actually picked out the exact same laptop i bought only months before!
I have had a few laptops in my time, this is the second Acer I have owned. I was slightly skeptical and purchasing another one (a bad experience with my first) but when I saw this, I fell in love.
[My model is the Aspire 6935G which may differ slightly.]
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the design of this laptop. On the left hand side, next to the keyboard, there is a 'Media Console' this is a touch sensitive console where you can control the laptops media controls, play, pause..volume etc. It makes the laptop stand out and look different. I think it makes it look much more advanced and expensive!
The laptop has a white acer logo on the front of it which lights up when the laptop is in use, the lid is a very dark blue, shiny. My only complaint is that it can get a bit mucky with fingerprints sometimes.
It comes boxed with the power cable, battery, recovery CD's and all instructions, as you would expect.
It has a very good battery time, on full power it can last a couple of hours, I have yet to see how long it can last when switched to a power saving mode, I assume much longer.
It is very quiet. You can barely hear the fans when it is in use and it stays very cool, even after being used for hours without a break.
Intel core 2 Duo processor 2.0Ghz - this is superbly fast. The laptop runs Vista with a 5.0 rating. I have ran multiple programs at once and it can handle it fine, even the newest games.
MASSIVE 4GB RAM - This memory makes the laptop super fast. The graphics card can be set to use 1GB or the ram to make it even more powerful than it already is, but it really isn't neded.
Up to 1791mb Nvidia GeForce graphics card - The graphics card has a dedicated memory of 512mb but can borrow the rest of the memory from your RAM (Probably one of the main reasons for the amount of RAM in this laptop) Fantastic really, I have been able to play many top games on high settings with no problems.
Massive 320GB Hard drive - more then enough room to save all your documents, photos, programs, games etc.
Fingerprint reader! - Swipe your finger over the reader and save your print. Fantastic extra security protection. You can log out of windows and only log back in with your own fingerprint.
A Blue-Ray DVD drive so you can play all your blue ray DVDs and watch them on this laptop with full 1080 HD playback.
The laptop also has bluetooth for transfering files between the laptop and other devices, mobile phones etc and built in wireless to able you to connect to the internet wirelessly.
Dolby home theater 5.1 surround sound output - Speakers sound fantastic for a laptop, great for watching movies.
16" widescreen Crystalbright screen - simply beautiful. Movies and games look amazing.
If you're looking for a decent, high specification laptop that is powerful enough to be able to handle most applications and games and last a lot of years before it needs upgrading or becomes outdated - buy this!
It is almost impossible to find flaws regarding specification of this laptop. It is impeccable. It has extremely powerful processor with 4GB ram. This is more wonderful that it also has 512 MB graphics card as well. So literally no complain about the performance, speed and multitasking. This is perfect for hard core gamers, web developers and extensive PC users.
You also have to consider one more known fact that, it is impossible for you to upgrade this laptop, because it's already on its peak specification. Almost every little extra benefit you would like to have in your laptop, this one has it all. For your enhanced security, there is also a fingerprint reader.
So, is there any limitation in this laptop? Well if you are too picky, then you will realize that, this laptop is kind of heavy comparing to other laptops in current market. It weighs almost three and half kg, which is a huge setback. The outlook of the laptop is eye-catching, but when you opened it, its bit extra spacious, which feels kind of weird. It doesn't go with current laptop fashion. There are lots of extra buttons on keyboard, which is kind of irritating.
Other than that, it is a great laptop considering every aspect, a perfect all-rounder. If you are not extreme fashion-conscious person, then it's the best laptop for you.
Acer has always made great computers. I got my first back in 1993. Obviously not a laptop but an old 486 DX2-66 with a whopping 4MB of memory. I see people at major stores asking "who is Acer?" Which is kind of sad because they really have made great computers since they started. Just like anything else, when a good company makes something good they are at risk from bigger companies like HP and Dell to come along and take over the market.
This particular laptop is a true Acer, it is tough, well laid out, and all the inside components are top notch. In keeping with tradition, Acer makes this laptop very easy to upgrade and modify. The only other laptop that comes close is the Sony VAIO which can be upgraded in about 2 minutes.
Please don't let the name scare you off because this is not a new company and if anything they use much better components inside.
