Advantages: Easy to use, easy to install other OS's, and a decent support system available.
Disadvantages: Battery life is slightly shorter than average.
First off, I would like to say that I have been using this laptop for a few months now, with absolutely pristine performance.
It shipped with Vista Home Basic, but being the picky IT guy that I am, I immediately downgraded to XP Pro SP3, which, after installing all the drivers necessary, worked like a dream.
However, after XP I decided to try out ubuntu, which also worked right out of the box. So far, vista, XP, and ubuntu had worked 100% on the machine, and I had not experienced a single system crash!
Recently, with all the Windows 7 hype, I decided to take the plunge and install the Release Candidate RC version from Microsoft on my Acer. To my suprise, even though W7 was not a supported OS (similar to ubuntu in this respect) it worked well under the vista drivers, and all errors that I encountered were problems with the OS itself and not with the machine.
As far as the quality of the laptop goes, it's excellent. Not the best of the best, but certainly better than the average joe would be happy with. In short, good sturdy build quality with an excellent mousepad (drivers must be installed to utilise it's zoom and scroll functions, which I find to be invaluable when using it).
So, I have now downgraded again to XP (in preparation for my Pre-ordered copy of Windows 7 to arrive) and all is ship-shape.
Very pleased with this laptop - my advice would be to buy it with no worries, it really does work right out of the box!
Summary: Won't dissapoint, one of the best specs you will get for the price!

- 23/07/09 Isn't much to say really tbh mate, it's a good, fast, stable sturdy laptop. But in my experience the machine is only as good as the OS it's running, or the person that's using it. Sorry if it was not what you were looking for. |

- 23/07/09 Interesting information about operating systems but it doesn't tell me very much about the machine itself! |
