I'm usually a dell Laptop fan, but when I saw this Acer Aspire 7720 I decided to give it a try. With a low price tag and a one year warranty, I figured I got a bargain. The laptop itself is very basic in that it has what most laptops have (2GB RAM, duo processor, fully operational Windows Vista system etc) I do like the inbuilt web cam it comes with as its high quality web cam where you can record your videos, snap good photos etc. It also comes with ACER Delux which includes powerful DVD system, crystalbite LCD, holographic 3D network etc. I do also like the WLAN functions where you can connect to almost four different networks at a time, you can also use it for video conferencing. The keyboard functions are very easily displayed so typing is a lot easier and faster. All basic programs are compatible such as Microsoft Office, anti-virus softwares, Microsoft picture management etc.
The thing I dont like about this laptop is mainly battery life. In the beginning it used to have a power life of 4 hours but after using it for two months it dropped rapidly to only 2 hours. Now after owning it for three years it only has a 1.2 hour battery life capacity. Sometimes I only get 50 minutes! I also don't like the sound system. Its too low and limited functions in making a suitable setting. I had to get external speakers just to get a proper sound system. It also needs a bigger RAM space as 2GB is not enough. I also noticed that after using it a while it overheats a lot and always shuts down unexpectedly. It's definitely not a heavy duty laptop especially if you do a lot of downloads like I do. Also if you use videos a lot, it slows down PC performance causing the PC to constantly freeze.
All in all its only good if you use it just for documents. If you use pictures, videos, downloads it will pack up on you at some point and you do loose some of your files. I would recommend it to students who only use it for assignments but for businesses and heavy duty usage, or if your a pro at using laptops I wouldn't recommend this.
I have only ever owned Acer laptops and have been really happy with them in the past, so when my old one packed up after 4 years of dutiful service, getting an Acer was high on my list of priorities. I'm a student and as such I'm pretty much completely reliant on my laptop - it serves as a workstation, games console, entertainment system and provides the much needed access to the internet. So obviously I'm big on reliability.
On the whole, this is a very reliable product. My screen flashes from time to time (probably due to a loose connection or a hardware issue, and not actually a design flaw at all). Also a few weeks ago my operating system (windows vista comes pre-installed) crashed completely and I thought the hard drive would have to be wiped, losing all my files. I did manage to back-up onto a portable hard-drive, have replaced vista with ubuntu and all is well.
3 usb ports is a handy feature, as are all the nifty little buttons on the side and front. It's not too heavy and the screen is a good size, making it good for on the go. Battery life is also significantly better than you'd expect (I can get up to 3 hours out of it in power saving mode) and it doesn't get too hot.
Overall, a good machine, and I would definitely consider sticking with the series when the time comes to replace this machine. I would echo the complaints made by the other reviewer that windows vista is more trouble than it's worth, but that's a problem that's easily fixed.
well wot can i say about this great laptop well for starters fantastic processore speed and laptop loads up extremely fast and as for th screen this was something i would of expected for a custom built laptop from dell the colours were amazing so bright and vivid it almost seemed like before this id been living my life in black and white and i for one certainly didnt want to go back to tht. the computer also has lots of hand shortcut keys at the side of the keyboard for quick acces to music internet connection and volume controls this was a huge plus but unfortunately there is one thing about this laptop that well i guess i could say i hate and that is plain and simply a confusing product weve all come to know as windows vista although as a consumer i can understand acers decision to use this OS but i feel microsoft have forced the consumer to change into a operating system we simply do not understand and are being made to get used to.
