I've been sick of going through rubbish laptops that stopped working after a year rendering me in a sticky situation. As a University student in this modern age, no student can go without a good laptop and without, you'll find yourself battling for limited computers in the library.
I decided this time instead of going for cheap laptops, I would go for a higher end laptop so it would last me longer than a year. I still went to second hand shops as I'm not tat rich, but after this amazing laptop caught my eye I had to find out more.
The basic specs are fantastic, even for a laptop about 2 years old. With a processor of 1.6GHz and RAM of 4GB and a 320 GB SATA hard drive, this laptop gives you everything you could want.
Before when I wanted to play on the Sims 3 (such a bad student!) I was not able to as my graphics card and the lagging meant it was impossible, but with this laptop, loading large games or equally other programs such as Photoshop take quarter of the time, it really does make such a difference.
Its slim design means its not as bulky and cumbersome as many laptops can be. It can easily be slotted into a bag and taken anywhere. The screen size is perfect and the keyboard is a mirror design of the MacBook Pro, although the keyboard is not back lit, which is a shame.
The mouse-pad on the other hand feels cheap and clunky, to get over this, I downloaded a driver that turned the mouse-pad into one similar to the MacBook again with the hand gestures. So if this bothers you, downloading a diver will instantly resolve that.
The speakers are very good quality, however compared to other laptops they are not loud, even when turned up to their max volume, which is a massive shame. However with a headphone jack, there is no reason to be off put!
One of the key features I wanted to look for was how often the laptop overheated, until now I have never owned a laptop that has not had over heated issues, however this Acer has been an exception. Even when the air vents have been covered, the laptop has not over heated once. It sure does get hot when it's doing a lot of processing such as gaming, but even then, it's never overheated. I am very impressed!
The 6 hours of average battery life sadly are not true, I usually get about 4 tops if I am simply browsing online, and maybe 3 at a push if I am watching TV, and then even less when gaming.
Furthermore with not Ethernet cable, this can sometimes cause a problem, since not all University halls have WIFI, so not having an Ethernet port meant I could not go on the internet unless I set up a wireless network with a friends MacBook.
Overall, I am very impressed with this laptop. For the price, you won't get any better. I recommend this laptop to anyone who has overheating issues or wants a laptop that is easy to transport because I believe these two features are it's best. I am very happy and once this laptop goes out of date I will be sure to buy another Acer!
I was given this laptop as a christmas present off my dad for my 16th birthday. To begin with it worked really well and I really enjoyed using it. It was quick and the amount of storage and RAM on it for a laptop is actually really good, but then just after my warranty ran out my fan started to stop working properly, and due to the safety features of the laptop it started switching off inttermitently because of the heat that was building up. This was really really annoying. I've since cleaned though and its become much better. I think that I would like to buy it again however, because I really enjoyed the first year of using my laptop, and I thinkif I treated it better it might carry on working for longer. All in all however, it is a really good laptop, as it is very high spec and is quick enough even to play games on, which is impressive for a laptop.
