This was a great but for me. The first positive that stood out for me in the S3’s machine is how feather light and easily transportable it is. This may be a feature common to ultrabooks I have used , but it is still no less pleasing nonetheless; perching the 1.38 kg S3 on my lap for long periods was no more burdensome than resting a medium weight magazine in its place. lol.
On the appearance front, the S3 has pleasingly curved corners, with an all silver cover that is only interrupted by the Acer logo though beautiful, Upon opening the ultrabook however, was met by a somewhat understated combination of chrome and light grey, very captivating.
More importantly though, the S3’s overall build quality was solid for me, showing no noticeable flex. Even more impressive was the 13.3” screen size– while it’s maximum resolution was 1366 x 768, it was nonetheless very bright, crisp and offered up particularly good viewing angles.
Under the beautiful body build, the Aspire S3 sports a Core i7 2637M CPU, clocked at 1.7 GHz, along with 4 GB of memory. While the notebook specifications point to a 240 GB solid state drive (SSD), effectively only 200 GB of this was usable space.
As was expected from the Core i7, the general performance was very good, with programmes opening and running speedily, and the processor appearing to cope more than ably with more intensive tasks, such as benchmarking and graphics applications. battery life was similarly very good, offering six hours on a single charge
However, with the latter, some heat was noticeable, particularly on the underside of the ultrabook and on the left palm rest. Thankfully though, this did not become so hot as to make working on it uncomfortable when under load. I was very much comfortable using this laptop and it satisfied most of my needs.
I have had this Laptop for almost 2 years now, and it hasn't let me down once yet. For the price I paid for it, I wasn't expecting state of the art technology, but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and speed at which the computer ran at. I use it for browsing the internet, which when doing so I encounter no problems at all. I also use it for a bit of gaming, this is where it shows some of its flaws. Firstly, it has no disk tray, so if you wish to play a game, or install a piece of software, it must be done through an external disk tray, or downloaded off of a website. Secondly, the 4GB RAM isn't really enough to play any of the larger games, so it limits my choice of games. Also, as time has gone on, when using the windows button (as it runs on windows 8) and searching for a program installed onto the computer, it does take it's time to load up, and can often be a minute before I get a response. This also happens if you have a few programs running at once, the laptop can't take it anymore and has to resort to closing down programs without much warning.
Finally, the battery, the battery life when I first got it was pleasing, i cold use it for a good 3-4 hours before charging it up, now, after having it for almost 2 years, I'm lucky to get the laptop to stay on for an hour. It does however have a good function whereby it puts the computer into a sleep mode, just before it would run out of battery, so that any work you have on the computer is not lost.
I bought this product a few weeks ago. My first impression: It's awesome.
The design is very minimalist and elegant. I like it's shape. It's slim and very light but has a wide screen (13'')
It has a good processor with the intel core i5 second generation so you can do various thing. For example, I use it for video and audio editing. The performance is very good for a super slim notebook.
It's also supported with Intel HD Graphic HD3000. You can watch HD movie in this notebook.
The battery is good. It can play HD movie for more than 2 hours and can do general activities such as browsing internet, reading ebook, writing documents, etc for more than 5 hours.
If you need a slim notebook with a good performace, I recommend you to buy this notebook. The price is quite cheap for a high performance notebook like this one.
