Overview As a teacher i was given a laptop when i started working at my current school. The Acer Travelmate was the type i was given. I have to say that after almost 3 years its still going strong after what can only be described as daily battering! Speed As a primary teacher i need to keep a lot of photos on my laptop and this doesnt seen to slow it down too much. I also need a lot of high memory programmes and games on and this again doesnt seem to slow it too much. Battery - Until recently i have had no problems with the battery and could quite happily sit on a train for a couple of hours and do my work. The Acer Travelmate 244LC is a very good entry level laptop. We use the 244LC for a range of tasks ranging from video and music playback to word processing applications with no problems what so ever. We bought the Travelmate 4 years ago for £799 which was good for the level of spec 4 years ago. The Travelmate 244LC comes with a 15" TFT LCD screen installed, which is capable of giving good, consistent colour definition to films and games being played, and with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 which is more than enough on a 15" screen. lucky. With very little initial outlay, they can be upgraded quickly and easily to a decent specification making them a very cheap option. Upgrades +++++++++ SOFTWARE > The Travelmate 244 will run Vista quite comfortably, however you will need to 1st upgrade the amount of RAM to its maximum. Vista fancy aero deck feature will not run however as the graphics memory is limited to 64mb. I personally use Vista on mine and If you can live without the fancy graphics, it runs very well. Acer do not provide official drivers for these machines, however Vista identifies and self installs most of the drivers itself. Acer s XP drivers will work with anything Vista does not ...
