This laptop was bought for me by work, and initially i thought it was a good choice. However i was wrong.
My particular laptop went back for repair 4 times due to the screen hinges breaking and the fan over heating one occasion. We have had similar issues with other 7520's in work.
The main problem with the laptop is the screen size and the weight. 17 inch screen might be a good idea, but it comes at a price. The laptop is very heavy, especially if you have to carry it around and about when visiting clients. The screen is just too heavy and big for the laptop hinges.
Also, the AMD processor is not as fast as Intel equivalents. Never had an AMD process before, and will avoid them all together.
Another downside, is the bloat-ware that is loaded by Acer. The power management software loaded is a bit temperamental. Why they do this is beyond me. Leave Windows handle the power management and do not re-invent the wheel.
I bought this laptop a few weeks ago to replace an old dell laptop i had for 3 years. up to now i am very impressed by the laptop, much faster with a lot of RAM and hard drive space. the processor is good and the general appearance of the laptop is smart. i would reccomend this to computer users who mainly use the internet and music downloads etc, although it would probably be okay running a few low end games. it isnt the smallest laptop you will ever see, but i have seen a lot bigger and heavier than this so it is good compared with a dell vostro and alike. keyboard is comfortable and easy to use unlike a lot i have seen before with tiny enter keys which can get quite annoying. overall i would reccomend this laptop for its smart looks and superb memory and storage space.
I recently purchased this from the acer website with the extended warrenty. It came on time and the service was perfect. The computer is easily compatible with windows vista and runs smoothly, however on idle, vista uses around 46% of the RAM. This makes no difference when using microsoft word, etc, however when playing games it really has an effect. Also it seems to suffer from the 'atikmag' problem which affects the video card. The atikmag file failes on occasion causing the whole computer to shut down, there is no know fix as yet.
Finally the battery is a bit on the weak side, however 'add on batteries' (consult acer website) are avalible, but are on the expensive side, usually it lasts up to 90 mins from full.
Apart from these issues, the computer is basically perfect! It computes amazing with vista letting the user use all the benifits of the vista progamme. The hard-drive is partitioned, which lets the user organise the files to suit their needs better. The wireless internet componant is ideal, can detect internet from over 100 yards away! The 2 GB of ram is ample for the normal user, however if gaming and advanced programming is your thing, an upgrade from the acer website is avalible. One last thing, the 2 GHz could do with an up-grade (vista is main culprit) but this is cheapish.
In comparison to other laptops on the market with this spec this is definitly on the cheaper side and of high build quality. I definitly recommend this laptop against all others for this spec. Also with the money you save you could upgrade componants ( see acer website for recommendations and recent prices)
