i had this laptop for a few years, its speed was really fast it even played some of the latest games.
The only problem i had with this laptop was when the power input pin's solder went cold. I use to have to bend the wire to get it to charge my laptop. I did this until i had to get a new charger... Then i relized the charger wasn't the problem as it didn't charge anymore. I couldn't use my laptop for ages and couldn't do any of my important work. I needed to get it fixed and it cost me around £40 to get done. Overall i think this laptop is great for everyday use but for gaming you should consider buying a laptop with a better graphics card. this laptop lasts quite a long time but after around 4 years the plastic around the screen starts to crack and peel off. It can take a lot of bumps and knocks without it breaking. It is very light for such a fast laptop. It overheats a lot especially when playing games on it. The microphone & headphone jacks are in a really badly positioned place and you will keep on accidentely unplugging them without noticing. I wouldn't recommend this laptop to people looking for something that lasts a long time.
I bought this advent 5411 last week from PC Word, I paid £480. It has an intel pentium proccessor which drew me t it over other laptops which have an amd proccessor. I felt that this combined with 4gb of Ram ensure that for all programs the laptop handles well, I have actually used the laptop for some low level gaming and it has handled this ok, however I would not reccomend this as a gaming laptop as the sound quality is good and above average but not stunning. Hard drive space this laptop has a large amount and is good if not ideal for storing a large amount of software and music/dvds. I think that the keyboad cold do with an improvement as it sometimes feel a little bit plastically and is quite noisey if one is typing quickly. All the all for an averaged priced laptop it is great but for a more "well made" and less plastically feel I would reccoment a more named brand and pay a little bit extra for the priveledge. For day to day office and program running this laptop would cme highly reccomended and better value for moey spec wise than more named manufactures
I GOT THIS LAPTOP A FEW MONTHS AGO, SO I CAN DO MY COLLEGE WORK BECAUSE MY OLD ONE WAS NO GOOD.I THINK ITS GREAT FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NEVER USED A LAPTOP BEFORE , BECAUSE IT IS VERY EASY TO USE.YOU CAN GET ON THE WEB EASY AND PLAY MUSIC,PUT YOU PHOTOS ON TO.IT IS LIGHT AND EASY TO CARRY AROUND IE ON HOLIDAY ,OFFICE,WORK,ETC;YOU CAN ALSO USE MOBILE BROADBAND ON THE LAPTOP JUST PLUG IN INTO THE BACK ,SET IT AND WAY YOU GO,THIS IS GREAT BECAUSE YOU CAN USE IT ANYWHERE ,YOU GET A GOOD SIGNAL . IE ON THE MOVE HOTEL,TRAIN ETC;BATTERY LIFE LAST FOR A FEW HOURS TO.IT IS GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the price of the Advent 5411 you will not find better specifications 4 gb memory, dual core intel centrino processors, 2 megapixel built in webcam. That said you do get what you pay for. While it looks like a stylish machine, the build quality is not the best (my left mouse key is slightly sunken now).
There are better overall components available, quicker processors, better graphics cards, more powerful mother boards etc, but for the price you will not find them all together in one package, I guess if you are not a huge gamer or graphic designer then this laptop will be perfect, with the power to run most applications without slowing. I am a keen photographer and use Photoshop CS4 with no issues, and that is a memory hugging piece of software.
Battery life is not great, but there are options to reduce power consumption when running off the battery, a useful function.
Sound quality is awful, but then it is only onboard speakers, so you shouldn't expect much, and is perfectly adequate for using the built in webcam, or watching clips on youtube etc.
So far the only issue I have had is that one of the two (myself and Girlfriend have one each) power chargers has blown, but replacements are available. I have heard of people struggling with the machine slowing the more they use it, but (and please no offence meant) that is usually down to user inadequacies not the machine itself.
This laptop is absolutely beautiful to look at and i really love the wide screen it has. However, i got it at christmas and have been gaily downloading music onto it and saving photos, as you do, only to find it has made it really quite slow awfully quickly. I was disappointed also with the graphic quality. I am an art sudent and need really quite sharp quality images for which this is just not equiped. This disappointed me greatly. However, the keyboard is thoroughly easy to use, unlike many mac keyboards i have tried and the layout is easy to navigate. I can imagine that for anyone wishing to download games it would be an absolute nightmare but for my purposes it is pleasantly adequate without being outstanding. For those not wishing to invest masses in a laptop it is a good buy. However, beware, if you want to actually see your images in sharp quality.
As someone who is not that "in the know" about computers or laptops, i bought this product on the advice of a computer consultant. At first it seemed to do everything i wanted and i was very happy with the purchase. Recently however i have had countless problem. Firstly the if you over the screen up or down while it is switched on you lose the picture completely/ Secondly it gets incredibly hot after a while, which makes it difficult to carry on using as i don't want to damage my table surface and it gets too hot to hold on my lap, so in the end i turn it off. Also not the greatest picture quality when you want to watch a dvd and freezer more often than not just as you get to the good bit in the film you are watching. I have to say for the price i paid i'm not that happy with the quality of the product and wouldn't recommend to anyone.
this is an ok laptop for the price you will get it at,i have been using it for almost a year now and i had a few issues with it though, the cd/dvd player made a horrid noise right from the first time i tried to listen to music or watch a movie and after about 4-5 months of use the power cord started having problems with loss of contact which was very uncomfortable as i had to keeping jigging the cord to make the power come back on to charge the battery whenever it went off. Also the battery may not stay on for so long when you have it off a direct power source especially if you use it to do stuff like watch a movie or listen to music while its own its own,but aside from the issues its an ok laptop to use ,its pleasantly light and nifty to use.
