A beautiful looking laptop, the MacBook impresses before you turn it on!

When mine arrived I was immediatly impressed, even the box it came in is a piece of art. Once unpacked, the first thing you'll be surprised by is the power supply... The connector magnetically pulls itself into the side of the device. This connection has a big advantage over the usual plug in types, if anyone walks into the power lead, it disconnects... no tripping people up or damage to the connector.

The next impressive feature is the start up speed, it's very quick both to the login sceen and to the desktop.

Now the fun begins, MacOS X! It's not Windows, so some users face a learning curve, but the effort is worthwhile as the OS is much more robust. For techies out there, it's UNIX based, so very powerful and versatile. I've enjoyed getting to grips with vi again!

I was worried about the screen size, but my worries were soon laid to rest. It may lack an inch or two, but the quality of the screen is obvious just looking at the desktop. Putting in a DVD confirmed the stunning picture quality.

The wireless networking is N compliant and also G and B for compatibility. Hard drive space isn't huge, but then most applications don't take as much room as in Windows. Sound quality is amazing, and to test that it comes with GarageBand where you can make your own music with little practice or in my case talent!

I'd heard good things about Macs for years, and after a few weeks I've yet to find anything bad about them. The only factors stopping this dominating the market are it's price (you get what you pay for) and the fact it isn't windows based, so there's less software available. The latter can be corrected as it's capable of running Windows Vista if you really need to.

Summary: I'll never let a regular PC in the house again!
