Upon purchasing my macbook pro last in August last year, I was slightly upset to discover that they released an updated Macbook Pro. However, upon testing the new one, I am glad I managed to get this version of the macbook instead.
Don't get me wrong, they are both great machines, but the older Macbook is much more suitable for my needs.
The biggest difference is the lack of choice between a matte screen and glossy screen. By default the new Macbook Pro has a default glossy screen and there is no ability to change it, I find the screen has huge glare and is very difficult to use if you happen to be sitting in an area with lots of light. The glossy screen is also not ideal for those who work with images where colour is of particular importance.
The new trackpad, whilst being large is a huge let down. The lack of a button, your thumb tends to rest on the track pad, and whilst this was considered when designing this new trackpad, the coding to prevent the resting of the thumb clicking isn't great and leads to a lot of unintentional clicking.
This macbook pro itself has been great. The all aluminium body design is sleek and attractive and the overall attention to detail is unrivalled. The laptop is reasonably light and fits into majority of the bags I own without hurting your shoulder.
I was a PC and windows user for over 10 years before I switched to Mac and OS X has been a complete pleasure to use, even if you don't like it - there is the option to dual boot with the windows operating system. The operating system is incredibly user friendly and I have had very few program crashes, slowdown or compatibility problems and I use the laptop for numerous hours every day.
I have a terrible habit of forgetting to close Safari, I often end up with 60 windows open, yet the laptop takes it in it's stride even if it has not been turned off for days.
I have limited gaming experience, but I have played world of warcraft a few times and the framerate was constant, with absolutely no slowdown even during crowded scenes.
The added bonus that most viruses or trojans are designed for windows gives you the piece of mind to browse the internet without anti-virus software.
The mac is let down by it's price, with Apple care and a student discount, the laptop cost me £1200, which is an incredibly high price for most customers, however for the all round package - I think it's worth every penny.
The battery life could be better, I haven't timed it but with harsh usage I would approximate that from full charge the laptop lasts around 3 hours. However, it has a nice feature that warns you of low battery and backs up everything you were doing if you forget to plug it in
I recommend this laptop to students, professionals and light gamers, I think if you are looking for heavy games use then this laptop might not offer the graphic capability that you will require.
I learnt to use a mac at university and it was the sweetlooking I macs with its qurky 1 click mouse. Since Apple has revolutionalised the Mac and this MacBook is sometimes equally or more powerful than a desktop computer with windows. I have frequently had to reinstall my windows, it crashes and cant take powerful programs. The macbook is easy to carry, beautiful and powerful, really crashes and havent had problems with trojans and viruses. I chose the glossy screen, and unlike what is usually said, there is no problem with glare. Battery life is about 3 hours for small programs, but can go qucikly with heavier programs, upgrade of memory can go up only to 3 gig tho. The down fall is it does heat up and collects dust very quickly indeed. It is worth getting the applecare product, as apple will fix any issues if they happen.
This laptop revolutionized the way I run my photography business.
Before I worked on a desktop PC which was quick and efficient, but I always thought I could work faster. I tried out a friends MacBook and was stunned. I found everything far more intuitive and this made tasks much quicker to complete. But enough about something so subjective.
The matte screen is beautiful to view photographs on and retains it's calibration well. They keyboard is a delight to work at and the touchpad is sensitive enough to even do basic photo retouching.
As other reviewers have noted, the casing does get very hot. There is a very good reason for this though, the aluminum case is used to cool the laptop rather than having an internal fan, as a result the laptop is very quiet to run. The other advantage of having the aluminum case rather than plastic, is that I have dropped mine several times resulting only in dents. Had this laptop been plastic, I would have had to throw it away by now.
I have 2GB ram in mine, and it very confidently runs as many apps as I wish to have open at one time, including Photoshop CS2, with absolutely no problems.
Another quick thing to mention, is that my PC used to crash several times a day. My MacBook Pro has only crashed a few times in it's entire two year lifetime.
I'm so happy with my first apple computer product that it has persuaded me to drop several thousand pounds on a desktop machine - they must be getting something right!
The only thing it is really missing, is a built in slot for memory cards into the case, or even space to insert a card to allow this functionality. If it had this, it would be an absolutely perfect machine.
This has to be the Porsche of computers, its sleek design, smooth metal finish and light weight, make it the most stylish computer I have seen on the apple market.
I have a macbook for traveling but this one takes the cake, it can handle just about everything you can throw at it with grace and efficiency, its silent and light sensitive, meaning that the keyboard letters will light up when it senses that the light is low.
It costs more then a desktop, but you cant fit your desktop in a backpack and travel with it comfortably, it dosnt scratch easily like the macbook and can handle more use and mileage.
I use it for photo and video editing, and the large clear screen that this model comes with is everything you could ask for.
I am satisfied with the money I paid as quality is worth more to me then a price tag, and this baby fits the bill!
Apple MacBook Pro MB133B/A
Something about background and history
Apple MacBook pro notebooks are most popular available notebooks in the world with its superb graphics and eye catching design and look. Apple has always won the war of IT and computing market by launching superb product time to time. First they introduced iPod and it has change the way of music. After that in notebook line PowerBook was launched and it got huge popularity among consumers. After that in early 2006 MacBook pro series notebook has been launched and after completing almost more than two years, it is more popular notebooks in the market yet. Apple's previous notebooks featured with PowerPC processors but in MacBook they have provided powerful multicore Intel processors with Intel Core 2 Duo and these are the latest available processors till now.
Here I am going to discuss about beautiful and featured notebook Apple MacBook Pro MB133B/A , from Apple Inc. My target point of discussion will be its excellent features with its advantages and some disadvantaged also.
First of all I wants to discuss about its attractive design and look with solid construction, it has a average size of Width35.7 cm, Depth24.3 cm, Height2.6 cm, and the another point is its Weight measured as about 2.5 kg. Look and feel of this notebook is very attractive with its classic design and we will feel proud to have this. Body has a solid feelings and plastic material quality is excellent.
Now if we consider about it Processor that is more important part of any computing machine and this laptop also has a best available processor for notebook with Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2.4 GHz of clock speed and 800 MHz of front size bus. L2 cache size is 3 MB and over all this processor has excellent processing quality and speed. Macbook are generally targeted with highly graphics based notebooks and for better graphics experience, an good processor with better Ram and graphics card are required so in all these terms this notebook deals good.
Now the Ram size is average but has a sufficient capacity with 2 GB of DDR2 SDRAM with 667 MHz of speed. Here I want to mention that 667 MHz RAM is slightly older and now there is good 800 MHz RAM is available for notebooks. I think here the RAM size should be 4GB and with compare to its processor 4GB RAM size is more enough in now a days for available applications. If there is a good graphics card available in notebook than the role of RAM can be reduced and it provided better speed in any applications.
Internal storage capacity of this model is something common to comparison with other laptops and that is 200 GB - Serial ATA hard disk drive with 5400 rpm of total speed. Size is not so bad but it is sufficient enough for storage capacity.
So having in mind of good graphics card in notebooks Apple has provided good graphics card for this notebook with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT PCI Express x16, with total available of 256 MB graphics memory. The most important point of this memory is its GDDR3 technology and this is a latest available high speed memory at present. It really impressed me that Apple is providing quality features to its customers and so that its getting high rate of popularity among them.
Operating system is provided with Apple MacOS X 10.5, this is a superb graphics based operating system but most of uses are having familiar with or using Microsoft's Windows, so that they might have problem with this but there is option also available to have Windows in this notebook.
Battery life is not so good but it is sufficient with having approximately 3 hours of back-up time, Apple claiming it to 5 hours but that is possible in such special conditions of using this notebook, but as practically the average time is about 3 hours.
Other features are more or less common with compare to other notebooks Networking, camera, audio, Optical drive etc.
And the bottom line
Over all this is an excellent notebook with high quality graphics and features with superb construction and design. Highly recommended.
The Apple MacBook Pro has been the benchmark for premium laptops for a little while now. Is this new version any different?
For starters, this new one is powerful. Processors range from 2.4 right up to 2.6 GHz, which is ample for nearly everything - including gaming and design etc. Screen size ranges from a large 15.4" to a simply insane 17". I have a 17" one, and, while it only fits in larger bags, the screen is a joy to look at. It sits snugly on my lap and is comfortable to use. Of particular note is the keyboard, which is fully size and also backlit - a great help for late night work.
The MacBook Pro looks very nice, with clean, fresh lines. It's quintisentially Apple. The speakers, which are located on either side of the keyboard, are better than the speakers on normal laptops but aren't perfect.
Battery life is very good, and I find that I'm regularly getting around 3.5 - 4 hours using wireless - much better than other laptops.
Overall, the MacBook Pro is a very good laptop. It's slightly on the large, and pricey, side (£1,300-1,800) but it's a great laptop for professionals. Highly recommended
This laptop just has superb build quality... think aston martin combined with BMW and your nearly there!
The Apple MacBook Pro is quite simply amazing! Out-of-the-box features include i Photo image editor, I Movie digital movie editor, Garage Band digital recording studio, Web Page/Web Gallery creation, simple wireless networking. All this extra software is brilliant if i wanted all this on a PC i would have to shell out hundreds of pounds on it but on my mac its free!
The core 2 duo processor makes it easy to run multiple applications at the same time without any noticable lag/instability.
The 15.4 inch wide screen is ideal for watching movies or long videos. The screen has very little bleed even when watching dark movie scenes, my screen is very good quality and has no dead pixels as of yet.
This laptop is a great piece of work and i highly recommend it!
The recently released MacBook Pros are by far the most powerful and most efficeint Apple laptops to be released to date. I purchased a base model MacBook Pro last month and have been using it daily ever since. The laptop will and has coped comfortably with everything I have thrown its way, even intensive tasks such as video and photo editing. This is by far the best laptop I have had the pleasure to use.
I was hesistant whether to purchase a top end macbook instead of the base model pro. However, the backlit keyboard, extra screen real estate are the features which won me over, they are worth their weight in gold. I would certainly recommend that those unsure which to buy go with the pro, you will not be disappointed. The larger screen resolution and dedicated graphics card are also great to have. The latter being essential if you want to use the laptop for even basic gaming.
