I converted to the world of apple in 2008 purchasing my first macbook and have never looked back. After 3 years of fantastic service, i ran out of space. Unlike a PC, macs work- all the time. My speed never faltered. it was the 120g hard drive that lost me. So i upgraded to this. The machine is beautiful. Much faster than the macbook, and a lot sturdier. The white MacBooks, though iconic had an annoying habit of having the wrist plate break on the right side as the plastic was flimsy- not with the pro. The aluminium body has protected my laptop spectacularly, from falling off the bed, to the mucky paws i use to handle it. The battery life of these newer models is also significant in comparison. Holding a charge for a lot longer than advertised (depending on how you use it though of course).
I upgraded to lion, which many of these pro's now automatically come with. Its a fantastic OS, and of course the other software you gain by going mac is amazing. garageband, idvd, iMovie etc are all awesome boredom breakers, and a lot similar to some professional tools that you could pay hundreds for. Handy when you want to feel clever, without forking out too much cash (think about it for budding musicians/videographers). If you own an apple iPhone and or an iPod/ipad owning a mac just synchronises your life beautifully.
I can't recommend changing your laptop to mac more than anything, though it may seem expensive, the lifespan and quality of use far outweighs a pc which starts to degenerate from the moment you go online. With the popular other apple devices working so seamlessly with it, you'll wonder how you ever went without one.
