Advantages: Top quality looks, great support should you need it, easy to use
Disadvantages: The price is hoffic and not justified in my mind.
I have to come clean and admit that after purchasing the Apple iMac, I became a complete Apple fan. 2 years later I upgraded to a Mac Pro, and then 7 months after this I found that I was away from home and needed to use a laptop. I found myself hating the HP laptop that we've had for 8 years now, and thought it was time to move onto a MacBook - no matter what cost. Let's face it these handy gadgets are not cheap and are 3 or 4 times more expensive than a normal laptop with exactly the same spec - although I really have no idea why this is so. As I'm self employed, I need access to all my files which are now centralised on iCloud.
The day came when I made my purchase. I received the laptop in a snazzy box which screams QUALITY at you. As with most Apple products it comes with minimal instructions.
SPEC:
My 15 inch MacBook was pre-installed with MacOS X Lion and boasts a core i7 2.4 GHz with 4 GB of RAM. The HDD is 750gb and has an HD 6770M Radeon graphics card inside. It's made from one piece of aluminium and apparently called a unibody. It's unbelievably thin and light, yet it's as tough as a cookie. It doesn't come with a protective case so I would recommend purchasing one just to protect it from the odd knock or two. The high res display is amazing and great for when I have to do my photo editing.
SOFTWARE:
It comes with great software applications that you need to get you started such as iPhoto, iMovie, iCal, Address Book, Mail etc. I use my laptop mainly for photo editing, basic movie editing and Word for word-processing and spreadsheets, Safari is a great webrowser but I prefer to use FireFox. I can use the laptop to carry out my music programming on the go, but chose not to.Thankfully despite Apples issues with Flash, you can use Flash with this Mac laptop. Updates are so easy as it automatically finds them for you.
The battery lasts for a whooping 6ish hours and its very fast to recharge, although this does vary depending on what task you doing. This I was a bit worried that that the MacBook would struggle in comparison to my Mac Pro, but it doesn't much to my joy. It virtually runs silent; how they fit these fans in I really don't know? I wish the hard drive was 1TB, these machines are a pig to upgrade, although I do use portable USB drives.
The sound is a little on the quiet side, would have liked it to have been louder. But overall, I love my laptop and it is a top notch quality bit of kit.
Purchased from Apple for £1,800
Summary: Very reliable, durable, a must have for the professional on the move.
