When it comes to design, Apple have always been at the forefront - this laptop is no different. Of course, at this point, an old Powerbook is pretty outdated; but it's capable of running every PPC app out there, especially if you bulk up the RAM (Pretty cheap now). It's my main machine, and I picked it up secondhand for a very reasonable price. If you're just after a machine that will do the job, then this should suffice. The 15" screen is very nice, though the resolution is low by today's standards. The aluminium casing is gorgeous, but the inside is made of (nice) plastic - after a few years of use, mine has a crack at the side and the area my wrist sits has become discoloured slightly. But these are only minor gripes - the real problem comes, in theory, with the CPU. Nowadays, a single core is less than useless - everything needs at least two. But the programs you're going to be running on here were all designed for one core, and the 1.67ghz clock speed really isn't bad. Unfortunately, the batteries on these are pretty poor - mine has almost died, giving me maybe 10 minutes of mains-free operation.
Overall, this was a thing of beauty - but it's had it's day.
The PowerBook G4 has captured the imagination of the creative community with its stunning good looks and prodigious processing power. Functionality is one of the PowerBook G4's key attributes. For instance, when most people think of portables, they're accustomed to tradeoffs, since PC manufacturers routinely sacrifice features or skimp on screen size to save a few pounds. But Mac people like to have their cake and eat it, too. Apple understands this completely and brings the full-featured ultra portable - the PowerBook G4. Allow yourself the uncompromising performance in a stunningly light package with Apple PowerBook G4!
