Advantages: Powerful, massive screen, ideal for video playback
Disadvantages: Heavy
The tremendous power of the thing is what keeps me in such awe of it. My very own 17" Powerbook is my baby, if a somewhat overweight and metallic baby, but it is my baby and I adore it.
I'm a Fine Art student in London and that is exactly why I have one. I specialise in video work and the massive screen is ideal for clear playback and is excellent for having several applications up on the screen at once, seeing as they all fit! The POWER of the 17" Powerbook should be the main reason that anyone buys it, however. For anyone wanting a computer for complicated and high demand work such as video editing, CGI, music editing - you name it - this is what the Powerbook is for.
The excellent and reliable customer service given by Apple will keep you feeling safe about anything that could happen to your laptop and the fact that Powerbook is a mac can leave you feeling confident that there are a massive list of purely professional and properly crafted and designed software for use on it, in contrast to its competitors which are a bit more easygoing with the junk. Very regular updates are a big plus to, to make sure your software is running as well as it possibly can.
On the downside, the 17" is huge. Whilst it is quite thin, the massive screen logically results in an overall large laptop, and it is quite a bit heavier than most, but they are minor problems. I personally carry mine around in my bag whenever I travelling around central London and it causes no problems.
As would be expected, its operating system, Mac OSX, is beautiful to look at and even more beautiful to use.
