this review is written retrospectively however if you browse internet for customer service you will find still the same issues and aproach from asus even now. I bought this laptop when I have found myself thinking, there is no difference between the products and you are paying only extra for the brand ( i still slightly think that however it slighlty changed by now). So comparing all the technical detials etc basicly value for the price at that time, this came as good spec for the price on the market.
I was quite happy with the laptop for the first year, although the locking hinges broke quite soon ( laptops nowadays dont have them anymore, is only flip out and back in most of the cases ) so basicly it was only cosmetical fault and mistake to borrow my laptop to my yournger sister. However after one year and one month on one really nice day , the screen didnt turn on , and even by connecting it to external monitor the laptop didnt seem to work. Reading though the warranty that screen was protected for 3 years by manufaccturer I called the asus. The pick up service went on 3 attempts - courier claiming noone was there, I can swear to God we were all day in the house waiting , even they had our phone nr so if they couldnt find the house , they could have called. Anyway lucky enough it was collected. Long story short, the repairs took 6 months due to laptop being sent to holland to be repaired , where over countless calls over the period of 5 months they were always waiting for the spare parts ( everytime it was something else) not mentioning that each phone call you had to explain all over again what has happened if you wanted go further. After 5 months they offer you a refubrished model which doesnt come untill the old one isnt delivered back and so on. Advice. Refuse and ask for money back ( retailer even if its online retailer) .
Result: if you want a cheap laptop with a chance that it will break down after 1 year and than you will dash it and get a new one, than good buy
if not AVOID.... doesnt last long, build is cheap so the performance is too, and the service is just one big long battle.
Ok, i'm going to try not to be too harsh on this laptop, but i feel like i have to...
I have had it for just over 2 years, and in total the graphics card has died 3 times and the case has cracked (in the exact same place) 2 times.
I've sent it back twive for repairs but now it is just out of warranty, and honestly it is so much hassle, i will have to buy a new leptop.
The design flaws are pretty huge in this laptop and i would hope that no one goes through what i have gone through... just don't buy it.
But even though it has hardly ever worked, when it has been working it has been an amazing laptop, hard drives flawless, very quick overall, and the graphics have been pretty decent (when they've been working lol)
I hope that no one buys this laptop. I'm sure their are plenty of laptops out there that are: 1. cheaper, 2. more reliable and 3. probably better spec wise.
