Sadly the eeepc developed a fault with the display. The image would shudder and horizontal lines flickered like the vertical hold on an old tv. I called the Asus support number and was give a link to follow. After several attempts I finally had an accepted repair request and a few days later a UPS label dropped on the mat with a number to call to arrange pickup. The package was picked up Friday afternoon... I was most suprised when the following thursday UPS called with a package, it was my eeepc. The repair chit stated faulty mainboard, replaced and operating system installed. That was fast. Switching it on my delight turned to dissapointment as the display blinked ...

I bought my Asus eee PC when they were introduced into the UK market at the end of 2007. They were difficult to get hold of at the time, which kind of shows the hype surrounding this product. Since this launch they have seen competitors introduce highly portable laptops of a similar nature, which shows how this product is going to become more and more popular. This particular model (which has now been superseded by a higher spec one) came with Linux installed. I gave it a good try but could not get used to it and decided to install Windows XP which pleasingly did not slow down the speed of the laptop much and it still starts up in about 1 minute - which I think is ...
