Have had this laptop for around 6 months now. I find it to be speedy and reliable. It seems to perform better through chrome, although I am not sure that this is due to my internet or simply to the processor inside the laptop. The battery life is adequate, and mine lasts for around 3 hours with no power saving modes employed. The ... screen is a good size, and displays games and films well, although the sound could do with being a little louder, especially for film viewing and music. The built-in webcam is adequate, and performs well, it can also take still pictures. The main issue I have is with the touch pad, I have found that now it is starting to wear flat it is harder to get a purchase on it to move the cursor around the screen. I am not sure if or how this would be remedied. Overall a good nippy laptop, which does everything I ask.

Samsung RV510

After having my previous laptop for almost 4 years it finally gave up completely and thus it was time to invest in a new one. I am not one to jump into large purchases therefore I availed of my boyfriends help while searching online and eventually we landed on this. I am glad we did.
With an i3 core processor the load-up and ... run time is fantastic. It never lags regardless of how many tasks I am doing on it. The LCD screen, is large, bright, crisp and sharp. Images and video have never looked better or clearer. Game graphics look amazing and games load quickly. I regularly use video editing software which runs superb on this device, it loads quickly, never lags or crashes.
I bought the laptop with Windows 8 installed and while it has taken a bit of getting used to it is fantastic. It automatically knows all my details without having to enter much in and stores all apps on the home page. It comes with 2 USB ports as well as ports for SD cards, which is pretty useful to charge my phone, camera and load photos at once. And again, this doesn't seem to slow the speed of the laptop down. It also features a built in webcam and has a mass amount of space.
The keyboard is easy to use, raise slightly which I like as it gives better access to the keys. Battery life is superb. A full charge does me over a whole day.
It is also worth pointing out that I actually broke my screen on the laptop (my own fault) within a month of getting it and although the warranty states that it doesn't cover the LCD screen, Samsung did actually replace the whole laptop for me after I contacted them, which I thought was remarkable and excellent customer service. I would definitely invest in a Samsung laptop again.

Toshiba Satellite Pro C850-14C

I have already reviewed my wonderful Acer Laptop, which is suffering from a premature, untimely illness - needing parts replacing.. at first I assumed the problem was terminal and starting looking into a replacement, but now I am extremely pleased that I have only popped it to the back of a cupboard and I have the feeling that I will be ... paying out buying replacement parts.
My hobbies all revolve around the internet, entering competitions, doing surveys, posting reviews and chatting to my friends. when the Acer broke I tried not to act as if my world had fallen apart, but actually it felt that it had!!!
For a couple weeks I used an old, spare lappy that we had in the house, but it wasn't good enough for my needs and decided to take the plunge. This came at the same time as my mobile phone contract was nearing it's end and after seeing an advert on TV, I looked at Carphone Warehouse and their inclusive deals, get a mobile phone contract and get a free laptop or tablet. Perfect, absolutely perfect.
I have already reviewed the service by Carphone Warehouse a couple weeks ago, so I will not go into details about them.
The Toshiba C850 arrived on Christmas Eve and I was a very happy bunny indeed. Obviously as a busy Mum, wife, pet owner, domestic goddess I did not get to play with the laptop very much at all for a day or two, but oh my, I knew it was there - waiting for me to discover.

I obviously did not pay for this laptop in real, hard cash - but researching online I can see that prices go from £259 on Laptops Direct, which to be fair seems a very reasonable price for a brand new laptop with the newest operating system.
But - and I am very reluctant to say but, as it makes me sound a real prima-donna - But, I am sure that for £259 you could buy something so much better.
Before I unpacked the box, I was surprised at how light the package felt, not necessarily a bad thing I know, but when I unpacked it - it felt too light, not at all sturdy.
It is very cheap and plasticy, not at all well made. The left hand side of the casing feels like it has not been put together properly, although there is no obvious signs of a plastic joint not being sealed correctly, that is exactly how it feels. As I am typing this review the keys "I" and "K" are sticking and not working every time, this is not good for a 3 week old laptop
The plastic casing and around the keyboard is textured, I believe this is typical of Toshiba, but I am not keen at all.
I don't know how well 2 MB Ram should run, but I do know it should run better than it is, my old spare lappy is also 2 MB and for speed on the net it knocks spots off this one.
I have researched additional ram and it can be bought from an Ebay trader for about £12, so I think I will have to do this... although I have to ask, if an Ebay trader can sell what amounts to double of my Ram for £12 with free postage and presumably still make a profit, why on earth can't Toshiba put 4MB into their lappy's as standard? Surely it would cost pennies?
A positive - the battery life is very very good
As for Windows 8 !!!!!! don't get me started!!!! I am not enjoying it at all, but I will not blame Toshiba for it - however fiddly it seems to be..
In conclusion, as a freebie I shouldn't grumble, but let's not be fooled, this is not a freebie, I am paying for it over 2 years. This is a cheap laptop that frankly is built too cheaply. I could not possibly recommend it.
I will update this review when I have installed the extra Ram, I am really hoping that the difference will be enough to change my mind about this lappy, after all I am stuck with it, unless of course I find the funds to give my Acer the kiss of life.... of which I am sorely tempted.
