Advantages: Reliable, easy to use, handy to have...
Disadvantages: That f*****g modem slot! Flimsy cable plug, too heavy for long journeys
I would like to meet the person who designed the slot for the modem cable to plug into this laptop. I would like to meet them and then strangle them with the cable! I am lucky enough to be able to borrow this whenever I want as my friend got one ages ago and hardly ever uses it. I have a normal PC as well, but when I'm on the go or simply fancy surfing the net in the bedroom or on the sofa, I reach for the laptop. It's probably a good thing I don't actually own this Compaq, as I may well have thrown it out the window by now. This is *not* the computer's fault, it generally behaves very well and although it's really to hefty to carry for long, I have found it very useful. No, the blame is fairly and squarely at the feet of the *moron* who thought that a hair's breadth was just the perfect depth to put the modem cable into. The cable's plug is very fragile looking (indeed, this one has a 'prong' snapped off...not surprising when you consider they look like flimsy plastic fairy teeth) and the slot only *barely* accomodates the plug. Therefore, when you breathe, or if someone just *slightly* brushes against it...if the wind is too freaking strong....out pops the plastic fairy-teeth plug and down goes your connection. Ths happens, on average, about 4 times an hour, no matter how careful I am. As you may imagine, this gets to be very annoying, and now the plug is damaged I have even thought about securing it to the modem slot with cellotape. Hardly practical or what you would expect from a reputable company. I have spoken to other people who have the same model, and they all have the same problem - it really lets what is otherwise a very reliable laptop down. I have never used another laptop, so I don't know if this problem features with all of them, but if I was going to buy one, I would make *very* sure the modem cable
fitted securely into to slot before handing over my cash! <br>
