Advantages: Two usb's, Two Pcmcia, Good graphics Disadvantages: split hard drive, no serial port, no infrared
The Compaq 1200 series are amazing notebooks, Durable, powerful and economic, this laptop is well worth the Price. The speaker system is brilliant and produces a loud, crisp sound that only a Hi-Fi could beat, with a standard of 64mb it is a very powerful machine but I Would recomend upgrading it 128mb ram. The fact that it is celeron is dissapointing but it still performs very well. The 12.2 inch screen is very good quality and the 6x speed DVDrom is a very large advance on the previous laptops which were only 2x or 4x speed. The Hard drive is a bit of a dissapointment as the standard is only 6gig and has a partition making it confusing at times because the Downloading and saving windows are preset to "C:/"which makes it hard for unexperianced users. It has two usb ports but does not have a serial port which is is annoying if you have a pda which usually syncronise through the serial but since everything else now goes through usb it doesnt really matter. It has two pcmcia ports which is useful for expansion purposes and extra modems or ethernet cards but it doesnt come with infrared as standard. It has four navigation buttons which can be assigned to any program which are brilliant. The 1200 series runs on the windows me os which is Faster at loading up since it does not use msdos and it runs programs much faster than windows 98. Dont worry about the msdos programs you have though, there is a program that allows you to run msdos programs in ME so theres nothing wrong with that. Summary: |
