I started with a fab, fast, funky laptop. Now, all I have is a laptop thats battery doesnt work so it must be plugged in at all times. The casing on the screen came apart, and cracked as I pushed it back on. It is slow and my internet/word (the main reasons I use it!) always crash. My sister has a much older model, but it works at triple the standard of mine! I am very disappointed it how it ages. It is hard to get sd cards out of the slot. The webcam is behind the microphone, so if I was doing a skype call you would hear me say "Hello" a minute before it appeared on the screen. The key lay out is different to a standard keyboard, as the screen is wider, so it can get confusing. I did love it, now I wish I had a different laptop :(
I bought my Compaq Presario CQ61 about 3 months ago now after reading quite a few reviews.
Its a great little laptop at very good price.
The speed is fast enough for what i wanted to use the laptop for. Basic surfing the net, networking sites ect. Which also doesn't need to much memory.
The built in webcam had good picture quality and speakers very clear too.
I couldn't fault the compaq presario for meeting my needs and keeping well within my budget i had to spend on a new laptop.
However there is a small downfall which is a great shame otherwise i would have given it a 10/10 instead of slightly less 8/10.
It advertises at having up to a 6 hour battery length, which is definatly not the case as i use mine on the go quite a lot and have never seen the battery last 6 hours no where near to be honest.
Maximum battery lasts roughly 1 and half hours which isn't very long if your out and about.
Bearing this in mind i would highly recommend the compaq presario to anyone needing a new laptop.
This laptop is very good! Its good if you want a kind of permanentish pc thats also a laptop.
The screen is MASSIVE and its pretty bulky so first thing I would say is don't buy this if you're going to be carrying it around a lot because you can get smaller ones for sure!
Apart from that its great. The big screen is really swanky and graphics and screen definition are awesome. The mouse pad looks really good as it is very smoothly built in with the hand rest on the laptop giving a chic look.
The keyboard is comfortable to use and has interesting options such as the "fn" key which you can use to turn up the volume on the computer, for example.
Battery life is not that good but again its not really that portable so as long as you don't buy it for that purpose its fine.
Whats great is that it feels like a computer as its so big so its not fiddly but looks awesome. Its also realllly fast.
My old laptop was slow and most likely virus ridden, as I had enrolled on a part time university course, it was important to get a new laptop to inspire and organise me for my studies!
So off I went to the local electrical store and was recommended this compaq model. I must say I am pleased with this recommendation.
Good points of this laptop:
Large screen that is excellent for watching dvds, looking at power points for study etc.
Excellent memory, I have lots of uni and work related info stored on the computer as well as 8 gb of itunes and lots and lots of photographs.
Easy to use and comes with new windows 7 so completly up to date.
the post it section is fab, you can write post its on your desktop to remind you of important info/things to do etc, perfect for fellow scatters brains.
I love this laptop and would reccomend it to anyone, its only downfall would be that its a bit on the heavy side and may not be suitable for people who would have to carry it around for long periods of time.
Not being a hugely technical person, and with my desktop computer virtually blowing up, i visited my local electrical store for as much information as possible on the best laptop to purchase for someone who wants i tunes, watches dvds online and wants to upload photos and home videos etc.
The very helpful assistant at the store showed me a few models and i opted for the Compaq Presario CQ61 with 4GB Ram and dual intel processers Ok ram and GBs don't mean alot to me. I just want a laptop to be quick and to to work! It cost £389.99 and i took out the usual extras for 3 yr servicing, bumping it up a bit in price.
I am now writing this review on the very same laptop and i have to say, to date, i am very impressed with it. The screen is 15.6 inches and is a world away from the screen on my old desktop. It almost looks like glass and the colours are bright, clear and almost gives the effect of hd.
The mousepad is very responsive and has a slide to move the page you are viewing up or down very quickly. The keyboard is excellent and leaves alot of room at the bottom for resting your hands. The Keyboard is black and the section below this with the mousepad is silver.
The Compaq, part of the Hewlett Packard group has Windows 7 built in and also gives you a free 60 day internet security package with Norton. It has a range of built in software, such as Microsoft Works, so great for writing letters, and for spreadsheets etc. Windows media centre and media player are also built in, as well as Cyberlink DVD Suite, Cyberlink Power DVD 8, Media show and Cyberlink Web Cam which is fabulous for creating your own videos for uploading to You Tube or Facebook and comes with all the accessories to edit and make your videos look fun.
There is also a magic desktop on the desktop for children where parental settings can be made, keeping it safe. Hewlett Packard also have a concise help and support section with tutorial guides.
I have found that the battery tends to last just over 2 and a half hours when using it to browse the net. I have not yet tried it whilst playing a dvd so cannot comment on wether it affects the battery life at all.
As i only bought the laptop several weeks ago, i am still getting to grips will all the accessories and programmes built in, but so far, i am very impressed with it.
All in all, a fast and responsive computer with a very clear picture, and lots of extras included. Well worth the money.
Compaq is a sub division of HP so you know from the name that this will be a serious piece of kit. The word is quality; everything about this laptop is stylish and sleek. The case is black and silver and when first bought shines like you wouldn't believe, a few days in though you realise it is a finger print and scratch magnet. Personally this doesn't bother me but I can imagine most people won't like scratching their brand new laptop. The screen is brilliant for watching movies and the quality is much better than other Laptop screens I've used. The layout of the keyboard and touch pad is a good design, having the touch pad slightly to the left aids in typing because its in the centre of the keyboard allowing for quick clicking between typing.
The performance of this laptop is great; with a dual core Intel and 4Gigs of Ram I can't see anyone having a problem with any commercial programme. I personally use some very processor and Ram intensive programs and I have to push to the extremes to get a 100% on the CPU. Having this much Ram means that switching between multiple programs is a doddle.
The built in webcam and mic are ok but are never going to live up to the quality of purpose built external ones. They are still very usable and you will have no trouble using Skype or other Voip programs. The light next to the camera is good it seems to brighten the picture just enough so that you can be seen in any light.
The built in WI-FI is great its fast and never disconnects, it automatically connects upon logging in. The laptop has many ways to transfer data too and from the laptop including a memory card reader which reads flash memory from digital cameras etc. Two USB ports with another in the E-sata input. The E-sata input is crazy fast if you have a compatible hard-drive. The CD, DVD player also does lightscribe, its good but mine is slightly temperamental and sometimes doesn't respond until you reload a CD.
You get some great software free as well as the operating system including: HP Setup, HP Advisor, HP Support Assistant, Cyberlink DVD Suite, Cyberlink Power DVD, Cyberlink YouCam, Cyberlink MediaShow, Windows Media Center, Windows Live Applications, Norton Online Backup (30-day trial), Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009 (60 days live update).
The battery life is pretty good but I've seen better, it depends on what you do. Loads of processing heavy tasks will kill your battery life. If watching movies you might get 4 hours out of the battery.
This is a great laptop for anyone wanting a modern laptop to do pretty much anything on. The connectivity option for this laptop means its perfect for watching or listening to media. The price is fair (I paid £499 when it first came out) and this is a smart purchase for students.
I recently got robbed and the individuals took a liking to my laptop, so after weeks of argments the insurance company finally delivered my Compaq CQ61 401SA to my front door......... at first i won't lie i was a litle dissapointed simply because it was not my old laptop whihc was still only a year old at the time it was stolen. However after 10 minutes with the compaq i was a reformed individual. This laptop is amazing, it is a serious super computer, with amazing features and super fast everything it is definatley the best laptop in the household. In fact so good that my brother.... a serious hardcore gamer always attempts to swap laptops when i am out!!!! This laptop could without a doubt run a small country :)
It is seriously amazing, it comes with windows 7 as standard, nrton internet security and 60 days trial of office home and student. With an array of features that could baffle even Bill Gates himself i do believe that you MUST buy this product.
I cannot say enough positively about this laptop, i would not be without it and as an A level student who is always using it for school and social networking i can say that if you wish to run over 10 applications at a time then this is certainly a laptop you should purchase.
But don't just take my word for it, try it yourself...................
