I purchased this laptop toward the end of 2009 as a Christmas present for my daughter - It was bought from Tesco and was on offer at £320 (reduced from £370). The reason for choosing this particular model was due to a few factors, budget, good specification, reliable make and the fact that the laptop actually looks good was a bonus. originally my daughter had asked for a pink laptop, however on searching the internet it seemed that the fact it was pink only added to the cost of the laptop and in some cases the specification wasn't as good. The laptop was easy to set up using the Compaq's built in start up (which unfortunately I have had to use quite a few times since buying due to it having problems whilst booting and requiring me to do a complete factory restore. Luckily enough the hard drive was partitioned which meant that it kept all the necessary drivers and operating system so even though I have had to do this it was fairly simple and didn't actually take long to do. One thing I should mention is that not only does the battery not last very long but we have had to buy replacement chargers due to various problems with the original one. We are now on our 4th charger for the laptop however as it failed during the first year Compaq did send us our first replacement free of charge. The battery which comes with the laptop cannot withstand being charged/discharged too many times and it has come to the point now that the battery will not charge at all and my daughter has resorted to just using the laptop with it constantly plugged into the mains having removed the battery completely. I would suggest that if you are planning to use this laptop on the move it would be prudent to invest in a spare battery. Although the laptop is fairly robust we have found that the keyboard is not - my wife's dog jumped onto the laptop when it was left open on my daughters bed and since then one of the keys has completely come off and cannot be refitted and another is loose. I have seen replacement keyboards for this model on the internet which may suggest that this is a common problem with the laptop. With regards to the usage of the laptop, primarily it was for facebook/ebay etc however my daugther has installed the Sims 2 on it and it does not have a problem playing games. However if you do start installing too much software on it which constantly runs behind the scenes then the processor does struggle to cope with doing even some of the most basic tasks. If you refrain from installing a lot of junk onto it then it runs at a decent speed and can play high quality videos fullscreen. The model which I purchased had 3GB of memory which means ample for running Windows 7.
This nifty light weight laptop is perfect for everyday family use, the built in 5 in 1 card reader is excellent as my husband and i have different digital cameras and different mobile phones, plus an external card reader just adds to the expense and reduces the portability of the laptop. Our Compaq came pre-loaded with windows 7 and has so far continually impressed us with its speed, efficiency and capabilities. I particularly love the look of the laptop, wide screen layout, sleek lines, black and chrome colouring and surprisingly streamlined. The Compaq also comes with HD display and output making watching films an absolute pleasure. I have also been impressed with the durability of the Compaq, it is used continually in our household and has shown very little wear and tear in comparison to our previous model. Another great feature and addition to its portability is the built in HD web-cam, my husband and i often use the web-cam when speaking to family abroad and find the clarity of picture to be excellent!
We purchased this laptop end of summer 2009 and in the short time we have it, it's still going strong. We paid around £370. It was bought as a gift, and was meant to be primarily for just websurfing/writing emails, playing a few games etc and as I mentioned so far there have been no problems. It has a sleek design, I'm sure it comes in a variety of colours and that there are slightly better versions now available. Ours has a black keyboard and chrome/metallic surrounding area where you would typically rest your palms. What I particularly like is the fact that the keypad is the same colour as its surroundings, and you cannot notice any wear on the pad whatsoever, even after months of high-use. It comes with a 5-in-1 card reader which is great for viewing pictures from digital cameras without the need for any cables. Ours came pre-loaded with windows 7 and comes with an intel celeron processor. I was a little worried as to whether the processor was able to cope with the new windows but there have been no such problems so far. 2GB of RAM also seems to work just fine. The display is crystal clear and the screen is easy to clean. It's slightly larger than other laptops but not really too noticeable. There are also 3 usb ports, plug-ins for audio and microphone, an inbuilt webcam. There is also an HDMI output and of course an ethernet port. So there really is everything the typical person could want and need from this laptop and at a reasonable price too. Obviously this laptop is not going to be able to play the latest games, but is more suited to the office. I would say that the only thing that perhaps lets it down a little, like most laptops, is its battery life. I find you can only really get around 1 and a half hours out of it. Apart from that there isn't really anything else which I can run down. It's a great little machine, reliable and sturdy. It loses one star by the fact that it is slightly larger and has poor battery life. A great laptop.
I bought this laptop in february for my wife as a replacement for her old Dell. Where to start? This is the best laptop i've bought by a long way. It looks smart, it's very quick at starting up, it easily handles multiple programmes. The speakers are better than you would expect from a laptop. The built in camera and microphone (which can also used with the built in motion sensor to record any happenings while you're out) are crisp and clear. The HD screen is great for watching movies and you can also connect it to an HD tv. The only downside is the battery life which is only about 90-120 mins on a full charge. Overall a laptop that will do everything you need it to. I would definitely recommend this laptop.
