Advantages: reliable, sturdy, fast and reasonable
Disadvantages: Short battery life
We purchased this laptop end of summer 2009 and in the short time we have it, it's still going strong. We paid around £370.
It was bought as a gift, and was meant to be primarily for just websurfing/writing emails, playing a few games etc and as I mentioned so far there have been no problems.
It has a sleek design, I'm sure it comes in a variety of colours and that there are slightly better versions now available. Ours has a black keyboard and chrome/metallic surrounding area where you would typically rest your palms. What I particularly like is the fact that the keypad is the same colour as its surroundings, and you cannot notice any wear on the pad whatsoever, even after months of high-use.
It comes with a 5-in-1 card reader which is great for viewing pictures from digital cameras without the need for any cables. Ours came pre-loaded with windows 7 and comes with an intel celeron processor. I was a little worried as to whether the processor was able to cope with the new windows but there have been no such problems so far. 2GB of RAM also seems to work just fine. The display is crystal clear and the screen is easy to clean. It's slightly larger than other laptops but not really too noticeable.
There are also 3 usb ports, plug-ins for audio and microphone, an inbuilt webcam. There is also an HDMI output and of course an ethernet port. So there really is everything the typical person could want and need from this laptop and at a reasonable price too. Obviously this laptop is not going to be able to play the latest games, but is more suited to the office.
I would say that the only thing that perhaps lets it down a little, like most laptops, is its battery life. I find you can only really get around 1 and a half hours out of it. Apart from that there isn't really anything else which I can run down. It's a great little machine, reliable and sturdy. It loses one star by the fact that it is slightly larger and has poor battery life.
A great laptop.
