Compaq Presario CQ56-105SA
by tomeprice
I was only ever after a reasonably priced laptop for internet surfing, word processing and the occasional game playing, and this Presario absolutely goes up and beyond the call of duty.
The keys of the keyboard are clear and almost flush with the surface of the laptop (this also give a satisfying 'clack' as you ... type).
The screen is generously sized and is very bright and sharp (as would be expected with a HD screen) with adjustable intensity settings that are simple to use and surprisingly useful.
The Battery Life time is more than useful and can really be used throughout the day for brief laptop use on a single charge
The Hard Drive is perfectly capacious for the average user and provides ample room for pictures, movies and music.
The Ram is just short of being useful at 3GB, however the laptop runs smoothly and quickly for the average user. However games might be a struggle to run on the Presario.
The Price is absolutely fantastic for what you get. I cannot fault the price and I would definitely recommend this product to everyone to asks for my opinion. Read the complete review |

Compaq Presario CQ60-212EM

I bought mine in Jan 2009, and within a year it started playing up.
If I didn't use it for a half hour or so, then it would go into standby mode, and then it wouldn't revive itself! The only thing you could do was hold the power button down and shut it off, take the power lead in, turn it over and give it a few pats on the ... back and then plug it back in again and hope for the best (this is what the guys at the computer shop told me to do!) Ended up also having to put an external hard drive on, as was advised I may have too much data on it, however, the problem still persists. I can't afford a new one, so I am putting up with this at the moment.
On a brighter note, it did come with internet explorer, HP Help & Support, HP Total Care Advisor and some Norton Anti-Virus. It also came with Windows Vista. I purchased Microsoft Office separately for just under £100 from PC World.
The keyboard has a nice touch - a bit "clicky" though for me. The mouse is built-in - no little red roller mouse in the middle of the keyboard like some laptops, the mouse is located at the bottom of the keyboard, with 2 buttons for right-click and left-click.
It has a built-in camera, which is very good quality, and I use it for Skype every week.
As for battery, I think it lasts about an hour at least without being plugged in; it's hard to tell as I usually sit with it plugged in all the time. When you do unplug it though, you will find that the screen goes a bit darker than normal, which can be a problem if you are sitting in a sunny room.
As for weight, if you are carrying it around in a shoulder bag for a while, it can get a bit heavy, but ideal for shorter journeys.
It is one of the cheapest laptops you can buy if you can put up with some of its glitches! Read the complete review |

When it comes to laptops and technology in general I pretty much know nothing. I had a fantastic laptop, bought me by my Step father that was worth hundreds, lost my temper and smashed it up leaving me with no laptop at all and I was lost.
I needed a laptop fast, before I lost my mind and did a little research but got fed up ... and didn't really no anything about what I needed and in the end I spotted this one on Amazon.co.uk new for £224.00 and felt that as long as it looked ok, had a nice screen and a disc drive it would be fine for me, after all I only use my laptop to write reviews, facebook and use msn as well as to catch up on the news and bits and pieces really!

My Impression Of The Laptop:
I have had this laptop now 18 months and used it every day for hours and hours usually. First off it looks nice, though isn't all singing and dancing just pretty basic really though nice enough. The lid is shiny and black with a large silver C visible letting is know that it is Compaq of course and then the keyboard is black with white lettering on it and to the bottom of the keyboard it is silver and has an integrated mouse pad. You get of course the ordinary keyboard and to the side of that a numerical pad, basically everything you could need and the speaker is integrated to the top of the keypad and all the way along, making it a large speaker.
It is supplied with a large battery pack with a nice long cable on it. The screen is a really nice large size, colours are great and the operating system I am on is Vista which I like. When I got my laptop I had some free Norton on it to activate but like all computers you do need to make sure you get anti virus protection.
There is also a web cam neatly integrated above the screen already set up for use. Personally I am not 100% thrilled about that because I have to get posistioned right however it is good quality and great for using on msn and skype and the likes and there is a headphone socket on this too.
I find that I have enough memory on this for me and my needs though you can add memory if you want to and make it up to your specification if you so desire. Battery life though is giving up the ghost on me. When I first had the laptop I could charge it and get well over an hour from it without it being plugged in however now...I'm lucky with a full charge to get an hour!
I find this a speedy to use laptop, like the keys and the mouse and often listed to music, watch dvs on it and upload and download photos on it with ease. Of course it comes with Windows Media Player and all the things you need to get you started and you can delete the games and things that come with the system too if you want too.
All In All:
Ive had a few laptops and this for me is the simplest and most easy to use as its rather basic. Its reliable, sturdy though a bit heavy and the base gets ever so hot and I even have a burn mark bad on my leg from this! The sound quality is good but not what I think of as loud, even on the highest possible volume so I prefer to use headphones with this for that reason but all in all this is a good value laptop. It looks nice, you can upgrade it if you need to, its nice for playing games on and I've had no issues with it thus far thankfully really that I can really moan about!
Available new and used on Amazon and its about £140.00 to buy it there new now so it pays to shop about for this one if your interested! Read the complete review |
