Compaq Presario CQ60-305EA
by MrsV
I have recently upgraded from PC to Laptop so I can not really compare like for like, However the Compaq is a really nice laptop with all the features you would expect and more it is slim, sleek, Stylish. I must also say that although I would not like to carry round all day it is ideal for home use, alot of the laptops/notepads we looks ... at were very small and bunched up so not as user friendly in my opinion.
It has plenty of storage.
Starts up really quickly, no messing about and is easy to use.
The battery life is good however I tend to stay plugged in at mains because once warning comes up it cuts out very quickly!
The screen is a really good size for watching TV, although we tend to plug in to our TV and watch I player, you only get sound via laptop though which is a little annoying, Sound is quite good when using day to day just not great at a distance.
I would definately recommend this to anyone who is looking for a study user friendly yet trendy laptop. Read the complete review |

Compaq Presario CQ60-107EA

I've had this laptop for a couple of months now and I have to say that I am very impressed with it's durability, and ease of use. The initial installation, however lengthy was very simple, clear and precise - and even those new to computing will have no problem at all setting it up to their own requirements.
The Webcam is ... great, even though it isn't the best quality and isn't very good in the dark, it preinstalled itself and was instantly recognised on MSN without me having to do anything.
The wireless connection is also very simple, and after following the most basic of steps, I was connected to my home network and have had no issues whatseoever with connectivity, or the software playing up.
The battery life is ok, when new it lasted a good 5-6 hours of continuous use before I needed to charge it, and when it was unplugged I noticed no differences in performance apart from a slightly dimmer display(Which can easily be fixed in the screen settings!).
All in all, if you want a laptop that is great for general home and office use, I would highly recommend this - Although if you are looking for something to play games on I would suggest looking elsewhere. A good all round laptop that I will be using for the considerable future! Read the complete review |

Compaq Presario CQ71-235SA
by MisterRossco
As a student I was looking for a laptop that fulfilled the following requirements:-
1. Was lightweight enough to carry around to lectures and cafes.
2. Had a long enough battery life to sustain me on the train on park (I set a minimum of 4 hours on low settings).
3. Was quick enough to run several programs at once, ... such as MS Word, MSN, IE etc.
4. Was also quick enough to run modestly demanding games, therefore requiring a minimum of 3 GB RAM and decent graphics capabilities.
5. Is affordable for a student budget. For this purchase my budget was £450, which I except is quite low for what I was looking for. I was optimistic though :-D!
After trawling through the many varied and differing laptops being sold by the numerous sellers I eventually found the Compaq Presario CQ71-235SA being peddled by Tesco on Tesco Direct. I've actually begun to find that Tesco are selling brilliant products but at absolutely brilliant prices, as you would see if you were to read my review of the Technika 22" TV I purchased recently.
Processing/Quality
The laptop comes in a sleek black design with a cool silver finish to the touch pad and area below the keypad. It certainly looks stylish enough without looking tacky, something always desired when spending several hundred pounds on a product in my opinion. In terms of the processing power, this laptop will not let you down. Although 2.0 GHz isn't the fastest processor speed in the laptop market, it is certainly more than enough to cope with the rather demanding stresses I put on a laptop of mine. The 2.0 GHz processor combined with the substantial 4 GB of RAM means that the Presario CQ71-235SA is more than capable of powering all those programs that a student, or even a professional, needs, wants and really doesn't need but has anyway.
The laptop utilises its rather substantial processing power and memory capabilities to provide a superb level of quality that rivals many laptop far more expensive than the CQ71-235SA. In terms of graphics the laptop uses an in-built integrated graphics card of 64 MB, which sounds rather small. However, it is enough to power reasonably demanding video games such as Age of Empires III and Rome: Total War (I actually know a way to boost the memory your PC dedicates to graphical capabilities and will be happy to tell anyone who wishes to know, just message me with your query).
Reliability
In terms of the laptop itself I've had no problems at all. However, within 5 days of me having the product the laptop's charger fused and broke, thus meaning I couldn't use my laptop until HP replaced it. I contacted them on the day of the charger breaking and was eventually told that it'd be with me in 5 to 10 days. This was on November 10th and I've STILL not got my replacement and each time I ring to ask about it I'm told it'll be there in a few days. Thankfully I managed to replace the fuse myself and so now have full use of the laptop again.
Ease of Use
As it is a 17" widescreen laptop it has room for a spacious keyboard with decent sized keys, as well as having room for a numpad on the right hand side. For a business economics student that routinely uses Excel, Project and Access, such an accessory is invaluable as a time saver. The programs that HP supplies with the laptop are also incredibly easy to use and are definitely helpful. The laptop automatically scans the internet to detect whether any of your software is outdated, and also provides software to update your network connection, memory space and capabilities.
Installation
From first boot the Presario CQ71-235SA is incredibly easy to set up. The start up program is professional and easy to use, but maintains a comfortable and relaxed design that makes installation an incredibly easy prospect.
Battery Life
As a student I would need a laptop that has sufficient battery life to sustain my usage in cafes and lecture halls. Without a doubt the CQ71-235SA provides a battery life that is superb enough to last over 5 hours on the lowest settings and even up to 2 hours on max settings when running a quite demanding game. However, one problem is the fact that it takes quite a long time to recharge when the battery is drained. This can be quite an issue when I only have a little while to recharge my laptop before I have to go off again.
Features
The Compaq Presario CQ71-235SA comes with a decently high number of features for its price. Primarily is the dual layer DVD-Rewriter which I've found to be highly competent, with a high speed and a good build quality. I've also not had any problems with it scratching DVDs or failing to copy, which is something I've suffered from previously. The second most important features for myself that are included are the VGA and HDMI output sockets, as I often plug my laptop into my TV and PC monitor to take advantage of dual screening. Also on that note, HP provides an excellent piece of software that manages dual or multi-screens and is included with the laptop. The next feature is the number of high speed USB 2.0 ports that are included. Unfortunately the laptop only comes with 3 and one is a combined SATA/USB port, making it quite difficult to plug the USB adapter in to. However, it is very easy to obtain a USB splitter for a very cheap price so this is not too much of an issue.
Overview
For £439 this laptop is an absolute bargain for the fantastic specification you get. As far as I could see it is unrivalled in terms of Price vs. Power and I would highly recommend purchasing it from Tesco Direct immediately before the price rises or they take it off their product list. If you DO choose to buy it then use the code "XX-4JJT" and you'll save £5, equalling the cost of delivery. This code is in date until 31/12/2009 and so is perfect if you intend to do some last minute shopping for gifts or Christmas food!
