Advantages: Does everything a laptop should and cheaply

Disadvantages: Heavy

At 15.4 inches and 2.7kg, this rather large heavty thing is a good replacement for a home desktop.

Being at the cheaper end of the flashy laptop spectrum at around £300 and customiseable from the website, this laptop has everything to offer. My version however is the vista version instead of the faster operating system of Windows 7.

Having 2GB of RAM it is reasonably fast to process as long as you don't clog up the computers 250GB hard drive with heavy media such as mp3s and video files, it is advisable to use an external harddrive for these files save for photos and text documents. Also with 3 USB ports, well what else would you use them for? It already has a webcam!

This laptop is the students best friend as it is good on a budget as it does everything a student could ask for: 5-in-1 card reader that will read storage disks such as an SD card, a DVD player for those nights in and a webcam for those skype calls to their family when they are feeling lonely. Also on the Dell website, the laptop itself is customiseable and you can get different colours or limited edition arty prints on the back of the laptop screen which is more than what can be said for other laptop providers which mainly offer laptops in only silver, white, black (or even pink to aim for the girly market.)

The wireless connection is quite strong and tends to pick up quite a lot from far away and the battery life lasts around 2 and a half hours - 3 hours at best when used economically typing essays instead of watching films which use up graphic processing and hence more battery power.

One downside for the travelling student is that it is quite heavty and quite noticeably large in lectures so I would get the Dell Mini 10 for note taking purposes. Otherwise, a great computer...

Summary: Great big laptop that will easily replace your desktop
