Advantages: Well built, a reliable machine with good basic features.
Disadvantages: None for the price.
The first few laptops I owned were all Dell products, and I have found that they've all been quite similar. Generally speaking, they are all very well built and solid pieces of equipment, and when I've had any problems with them, the people I've spoken to in their help departments have always been very helpful and been able to address my problems and provide solutions.

I don't know much about the technical side of laptops, so I'm not going to go through all the specifications, as I don't really know enough about them to offer an opinion on whether they're any good or not. To be honest, unless you're a really serious user, or need something really high-end for your job, I think all the laptops on the market offer a good service and good tools for people who want basic functions like internet surfing, Office-type applications and simple design tools, films and music, perhaps some basic games.
The design of the computer is quite simple and functional - I think Dell provide laptops and desktops that are usually quite simple, and this is shown in the prices that they charge, which are generally quite reasonable. I would say that this laptop has all the functions and features you would expect for your money, such as a webcam and DVD rewriter and is well made and solid.
This laptop comes with Windows 7, which has replaced Vista, which took a lot of criticism, although personally I didn't mind it. Windows 7 is fine, though, and has some nice features and generally looks very polished.

I think it depends on what you want from a laptop. For basic users, I think this is ideal - it is very easy to use, and is also quite comfortable. You can keep it on your lap and it doesn't get too hot mostly, and all the keys are easy to reach, the touchpad is sensitive enough, and the laptop is nice and light and portable.
In all of these areas, I think there are certainly better laptops that you could buy, but you'd have to spend a lot more money. I think Dell machines are a great buy for basic users, and are a good all-round option. I think this particular laptop is a good buy for someone who wants a variety of basic functions for a good price, and it also looks quite good too.
Summary: A good laptop for under £400
