Dell Inspiron 15
Advantages: Stylish looks
Disadvantages: Over priced and very poor quality
As a student leaving for university I went shopping for my first personal laptop. Knowing little about laptops/computers, I was heavily influenced by the Dell TV advertising at the time. I was also attracted to the smart appearance of the Inspiron 15; however that is where the pleasantries end.
The first problem arose a few months after purchase, when I attempted to watch a DVD on the laptop. No matter what I tried, I was unable to play any DVD or CD in the DVD drive. So, being under warranty, I called Dell technical support to resolve the issue. The process was slow and extremely costly (incurred as phone charges). I also had issues when trying to connect to wireless networks. I had to find further downloads on the internet to make my laptop capable of connecting to wireless internet connections.
About 15 months after my purchase the laptop failed to work anymore. After contacting Dell I found that the warranty only lasted 12 months, and therefore had to take my laptop to an IT repair shop to be fixed. The laptop required a new hard drive, costing me £100+. Since then, the laptop continues to overheat causing the fan to make excessive noise. It often freezes and sometimes fails to turn off when requested. Also, the battery life is incredibly short at about 45 minutes.
Internet forums suggest that these issues are common, and I would recommend anybody buying a laptop NOT to buy a Dell Inspiron 15.
