Dell Inspiron 15
Advantages: brand name, good features
I've used my Dell Inspiron 15 through school, and I'm pretty happy with it. While I would never use this as my main home computer due to some of the features being on the lower end, it is great for its size, portability, and battery life.
I'll go over some of the basic specs. The laptop comes with Windows Vista as the Operating system. The graphics card is pretty solid for a laptop in this range and can even handle some of the smaller games that I play. This comes in handy when I'm bored in between classes! The laptop with battery comes in right around six pounds, so it's not all that heavy to carry around. The 3 gigabytes of RAM is helpful to handle all of the applications I need at once without any lag. The 15.6" screen is easy to read and large enough so that you don't have to strain your eyes. The laptop also has an ethernet port and built-in wi-fi for connectiong to the internet.
This laptop only has 3 usb ports, which sometimes can be a problem. If I hook up an external mouse, keyboard, and flash drive, I don't have room for anything else, which happens from time to time. Most laptops come with 4 usb ports, and I do miss the 4th one in this model.
Overall, this isn't a bad laptop for the price range. Dell is a good brand, and if you ever have problems with your system, the customer service is helpful in getting it fixed. I would suggest this laptop for anyone that does a lot of travelling and doesn't need a super powerful machine.
Summary: great laptop
