Advantages: Features, OS, Hardware, Ease of Use, pleanty of USB slots, the whole package is awesome
Disadvantages: The Battery, it is horrificly short lifed and even more murdurously expensice to replace
This laptop (funnily enough the one I am typing on this very second) Is without a second thought, the centre of my universe, I am barely ever away from is because I use it so much, that said, says something about how versatile this machine is, it gives flawless performance as far as a laptop is concerned, however it is currently running on what I like to call 'life support' as after about 10 months of usage the battery 'conked' out on me and the second the power cable is removed, the laptop instantly dies, as a result it rarely leaves my room unless I intend to use it at college. However since I am on my summer break, that is never at the moment however come september, that will change.
Ther cmputers processing power is very impressive for the laptop, I can pretty much run whatever I want on the computer all at once without much ill effect on speed and performance and I will say however that whilst my battery was of some use to me, the battery life was quite good, about 3 hours with the brightness turned down a notch or three.
The brightness on the laptop is fnatastic, doesnt matter how glaring the sun is, I have never had to complain about not being able to see the screen in bright light.
Windows Vista Home Premium is fantasic I could not have asked for more in my operating system although I confess when I turned it on for the first time to find it had the 'dreaded' Vista installed I scorned my father for allowing it on the computer, but I have to say that once I started to use it, I learned to love it, much like I learned to love XP when I upgraded from 2000.
Is it smart and professional looking and I am always asked questions about it because it never fails to draw attention.
All in all this laptop is perfect for what I use it for; watching movies, playing games, listening to music and doing/storing all of my college work. With its 4 USB slots and its SD/MMC card slot, I am never at a loss for a way of saving my work or files to another destination. This laptop is amazing. Just too bad about the battery life considering I would never pay DELL for a new one, I would rather get a 2rd party after market one for a third of the price
Summary: An all rounder than is useful for just about any tak you can imagine!

- 22/07/09 Does the warranty not cover the battery inside of 12 months. I am not sure of the top of my head but when i get laptops for clients even with extended warranty, I am pretty sure the battery is always limited to within the first 12 months as they are essentially perishable items and do degrade over time. However i could be mistaken its 6 months, but worth checking out. Also check it is the battery and not the power connectors as if its the power connectors from the battery then it is a laptop problem which is definately covered by initial 12 month warranty.
Finally try ebay for a cheap battery they are easy to obtain for around £20 I have before for outdated DELL models for clients, and even my own laptop 4 years on the battery died, and got a lower powered on for £30 (and thats just for the flexibility of use when there is a powercut as it is always on a desk) |
