Advantages: Nice, lightweight laptop

Disadvantages: Screen suceptible to damage

I'm not going to go into too much technical detail - because technically, this laptop is fine - more than enough RAM (2MB) for my daughters day to day requirements - they need to use Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, surf the internet, Email, Messenger etc. It has a good sized hard drive at 160 GB but fails slightly on graphics - these are okay but not powerful enough for a dedicated games player. Luckily, they aren't particularly interested in games playing! A built in DVD Re-writer means its functions include burning CDs/DVDs and its 15.4" Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display provides clear and crisp graphics. It also comes in a range of colours, and is suitably sleek and lightweight at approximately 2.7kg.

Like most laptops nowadays, it has built-in wi-fi capabilties as well as Bluetooth connectivity, both of which have been fully tested by my daughters and work well.

Both daughters opted for these laptops. Both laptops have been stored in soft cases every night and treated with care. Both daughters have subsequently got laptops out in the morning, only to find the screen cracked and unusable. They haven't been kept (the laptops I mean) in particularly cold or hot conditions, they haven't been dropped, had drinks spilled over them or in any other way ill-treated.

Both machines, at less than 1 year old (but, of course, screens are not covered under warranty). This apparently is not uncommon, (simply google the issue for more info). The issue seems to be a result of manufacturers constantly seeking to lower the weight and width of laptops - screens are now so thin that they are incredibly susceptible to damage even when treated with extreme care....This is such a shame, as otherwise these are good laptops.

As a result, both girls have had to have replacement laptops and Dell are no longer on our Christmas card list........

I've hardly ever used mine, and the screen cracked "snap" just like that...
No force applied, nothing - one day just opened the lid and found it cracked - worst still - technical support treated me like a liar despite the fact that I've offered perfectly reasonable explanation...

Over all, the product is ok, but beware of the customer services/technical support - they'll make you feel BAD...
