Advantages: good colours, easy to use, durable, good customer support

Disadvantages: hardware and software problems

I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 in March 2009. The Laptop looks good and comes in different colours (I got the pink), it isn't too heavy and it is easy to carry around. The laptop is about the same size as others so it is easy to find a generic and attractive laptop case, or a big bag to keep it in.
The laptop is durable I have dropped it, dropped things on it, spilt stuff on it and generally just knocked it around and physically the laptop has been fine.
However I have had some problems with hardware, since september (six months after I got the laptop), the hard drive has had to be replaced twice. My operating system also got deleted somehow. My mum has the same laptop as me (in black, not as interesting but more sophisicated looking I guess) she has had it for about three years and has had to send it off quite a few times, she has had her hard drive changed quite a few times, so I don't know if this is something that happens to all inspiron 1525s. I have also had to buy two new power cords for the laptop as the first one just stopped working and on the second one the plastic covering on the cord snapped and it stopped working aswell but I think that was just general wear and tear.
Although I have had software and hardware problems, when I bought the laptop I also got cover from dell for three years which worked out quite reasonable, dell have been brilliant, picking up my laptop and fixing it, answering queries on dell support chat (on the internet) and even the call centres are helpful, talking me through all the diagnostic checks.
The laptop is actually really easy to use and navigate around, it is pretty much like any other laptop. It uses Windows operating system so if you are used to that you will be able to use it well. It has USB points, can pick up wifi or you can plug the internet in.
It is generally a good laptop and it comes in lots of really nice colours which i think are £30 more than the standard black laptop, my friend has the navy one which looks good but is less out there than the pink which would appeal to more people I think. I would recommend buying this laptop because it is reasonably priced, is a good size and comes in nice colours but get cover from dell as the laptop can be quite temperamental.
