Dell Inspiron 1525
Advantages: Works well when it's only a few months old :)
Disadvantages: Started breaking a few months in, and by the end of two years EVERYTHING was wrong with it!
This was the first laptop I bought, and I don't know if I had overly high expectations, but I wasn't THAT impressed with the quality OR the customer service.
The laptop was good looking and when it was new it was reasonably fast and did all the things it should have! However, only 6 months after my purchase the battery pack and lead that accompanies the laptop broke on me. The wire was exposed and basically wouldn't charge my laptop, so my laptop eventually died whilst I was waiting for them to send me a new lead. When I rang up to complain the customer service people kept trying to persuade me to send the laptop off, even though I knew that the problem was hmm, the broken battery lead? Anyway, after about half an hour on the phone they decided to send me a new battery lead and all was well. The battery lead worked, but a few months later there was another fault with the laptop itself. For some reason, I don't know why still, the laptop decided to just die on me. It wouldn't turn on at all. I thought at first it might be a battery lead fault again, but charged a friends laptop with my charger and everything was fine. I called them up again and they took the laptop away to mend it. It took about 2-3 weeks which I suppose is pretty good, and the laptop worked again (and still works to this day!) The problem now though, is the superficial damage that is beginning to show. I have to admit that I'm not overly careful with the laptop and looking after it, but I think I do a pretty good job, and despite this, keys have started to fall off, screws are becoming loose, and the screen keeps blinking and going dark as though there's something wrong with a wire in the connective part between the screen and the keyboardy bit!!!
It's definitely on it's way out, and it's only lasted me about 2 years. I have started saving for a new one, but I wouldn't recommend this product as I've only had problems with it. Obviously it may differ from person to person, but it's been more of a hinderence than a help to me at times!
Hope this was helpful :)
Summary: An ok laptop, but I wouldn't buy it again.
