Dell Inspiron 1525
Disadvantages: Very low battery life, flimsy lid
I first received this laptop as a leaving gift when starting university in 2009. For the first 12 months, everything went swimmingly, and I encountered absolutely no problems with it. But a couple of weeks over the year mark and things started to go wrong: the battery started to cut out (it now lasts for a total of 5 minutes unplugged, on full charge); the system wiped itself clean last year and everything had to be re-installed (a lots of blue screen error messages kept appearing); and who can forget the flimsy lid, which actually snapped off at one point a few months back, after a housemate of mine sat down next to me (this is no joke - that tiny movement was enough to break it). All in all, the laptop seems a good deal when you look at the pricing, but I think it's safe to say that I won't be buying another Dell again once I graduate, as the first thing I plan to replace is this laptop. I've had so many problems with it over the past 3 years that I've had enough, and by the sounds of it I'm not the only one who has had a bad experience with Dell.
So I'm focusing now on my first pay-cheque...and my brand new laptop (sorry Dell, but not from you)
Summary: Cheap but not cheerful - avoid!
