A fast but flawed laptop.

Dell Inspiron 1525
Advantages: Sleek looks, decent screen and keyboard, good for typing
Disadvantages: overheating is a problem, flimsy hinge.
KEYBOARD AND SCREEN
The keyboard is ideal for typing, I am writing this on my 1525 and my fingers are flying across the keyboard, the spacing is perfect, athough the glossy finish on the keys can be problematic, this is a minor niggle. The 1024x768 screen is a finger print magnet, and whilst it looks fantastic if kept clean, it looks like a mirror in daylight if you don't look after it.
The 1525 looks sleek, with the curved line of the laptop making it easy to carry arround and store. The size is perfect, the laptop isn't huge, but the size of the screen is not compromised.
SPEED AND EASE OF USE
Out iof the box, the laptop is quick as hel, and after nearly 3 years of use it's slowed down slightly, but I suspect that is only because of the amount of memory I've used and the applications I have installed, along with the well known slowness of Windows Vista. The hard drive of 160Gb is plenty big enough for my music, photos and documents, and if you organise and clean up after yourself then you'll never run out of memory.
The 1525 is extremely easy to use, a feature that I like is the touch sensitive music controls above the keyboard, which make it easy to control media playback whilst working in other programs. The touchpad is very responsive and the mouse keys are soft to the touch and make no noise.
The main problem I encountered was the overheating. If you use the laptop for long periods of time with it on your lap, then you run the risk of it suddenly shutting down. This only stops happening if you use it on a hard flat surface like a desk, which I'm sure won't be a problem for most people, but for some this may be a potential reason why not to buy this laptop.
Another problem which may just be down to me is the hinge. It has become extremely flimsy over the last few months, so this is something else to look out for.
Summary: Don't buy if you want to use it on your lap! Otherwise a good choice.
