Dell Inspiron 1525
Advantages: Cheap, has all the usual laptop content
Disadvantages: Slow, battery, badly made/designed
I got the Dell Inspiron 1525 about 3 years ago as a birthday present, it was pink, and it was very aesthetically pleasing.
However, it was short lived as it basically overheated and refused to work- resulting in it being swapped for another black version (unfortunately not pink as all the pink were out of stock)
The first year with my black Dell Inspiron 1525 was average enough with it being my first laptop.
Webcam was fine, i didn't expect a webcam so the only half decent quality of it wasn't really an issue back then- although it appears to have got worse now.
You can create as many files as you want, keeping things organised etc- like you can with most laptops, so not much of a unique thing.
There is also the option of voice recognition which was 'cool' at the time, allowing you to set it up and use your voice to command your laptop to do something... e.g. i say "start" and it opens up the start menu. However, this was short lived as it slowed my laptop right down, and would struggle with understanding commands etc.
After the first year, the novelty of having my first laptop soon wore off as more problems occured.
Programmes were becoming increasingly slow to run and when using the internet, it would randomly freeze all the time and become very slow until i closed the window and opened it up again (i have to do this at least 3 times when using it for an average of 2 hours)- with the internet being my main reason for using my laptop, this was a huge issue.
The laptop quite often overheats and switches off.
The battery life of my laptop had always been a positive, however in the last year i now recieve a message everytime i switch it on saying that my battery has come to the end of its life- i've still not bought a new one as i see no point in spending the money for a new battery when i could buy a new and better laptop, but also i always have my charger plugged in so it has not really been an issue in using the battery on its own.
The charger has been another issue. It stopped working for no reason, i had to hold it in while i was using it to get it to work, this technique stopped working after a while, so in the end i gave up and bought a new one.
Finally, the biggest issue of all is the hinges. The right hinge has broke, the back covering of it has snapped off and the hinge itself has somehow popped out of the back; the edges of the screen do not fit in place due to the hinge coming off, the pin has also come out and will not go back in. This appears to be a common problem as i know of 2 people with the same laptop who have also got this issue.
As a result i am hoping to buy a new laptop- preferably not a dell- with many saying avoid them.
Summary: Good for a first laptop, but for no longer than a year
