Advantages: Appearance, battery life, features, speedy

Disadvantages: Display features, minor issues

The Dell Inspiron 1545 is provides great value for money. I bought this laptop after my 5 year old one died all of a sudden. It never crossed my mind to purchase a Dell laptop but once someone suggested browsing their site, I found just what I was after.

The greatest advantage of buying a Dell laptop is that Dell allow you to build your own specification, enabling you to pick and choose what's important for your needs. After some chopping and changing I decided on the Inspiron 1545 spec.

The first thing to say about the Inspiron 1545 is that it looks great and is finished well. With a range of colours available and a variety of finishes to pick from, customers are given a lot of choice. However, finger prints on the black micro-satin finish prove quite annoying!
The laptop provides a fast processor in the form of a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, which is more than adequate if you just want a simple to use multi-media laptop. However, if you are into gaming I would go for a faster, more powerful spec.

Often an issue with laptops is poor battery life. However, the Dell gives you a good 2 hours usage while running on a standard performance option. Also impressive, albeit a small feature, is the webcam - great quality picture! There's a massive hard-drive (320Gb) and a decent DVD+/-RW included at an inclusive price.

Negatives are few and far between, although I have seen the 'blue screen of death' on a couple of occassions. Nevertheless, I haven't seen any implications due to this, just a few crashes. The display is slightly annoying as it cannot be reduced to a very small font, which I personally prefer. Other than these few minor issues, it's a great laptop which doesn't require breaking the bank.

Summary: A fantastic buy, if you're after a cheap and cheerful laptop
