Advantages: High durability
Disadvantages: A bit clunky
I haven't got my own Dell Inspiron but I have bought 4 of these for friends (I didn't pay - they did!).
The people I bought them for wanted:
*Cheap
*Stylish
*Fast
*Hard wearing
*Decent battery
* Able to handle multiple applications
*Can last their kids for several years into high school.
The spec I bought for these 4 laptops was a 4Gb Ram, Pentium Core Duo (2 processors makes more than one programme run fast when they run at the same time and 320Gb Hardrive which is more than sufficient even for little darlings with a massive itunes library. Of course - this is not just a kids computer, it is suitable for anyone. All this came in at around £400 delivered. As with all Dell laptops you can change various things, such as colour for extra £30-£60.
I would say that for a professional, or anyone wanting a lightweight laptop, definitely consider a smaller 13" screen. This isn't the lightest laptop I've ever seen, in fact I'd say it was a bit clunky if you are planning on carting it around with you (laptop+adapter+bag = heavy). BUT if you want it for the house, as an alternative to the desktop, it is hard wearing and relatively child-wearing (from what I have seen).
You only get a basica software package on, so doesn't come with microsoft works etc. you will need to pay extra for that.
For the money and for the spec, you won't go wrong with this laptop for longevity. I won't buy anything other than a Dell as they have been super (and I have bought my last 5 pcs/laptops from Dell).
Dell tell you when they are going to deliver too. I would say generally if you are ordering for Xmas, order in November as they get VERY busy!
Summary: You won't regret buying this.

- 11/07/09 As you have seen if you read the review, I can't offer any personal opinion other than "I like Dells" because I haven't bought one for myself. I have purchased 4 for other people. |

- 10/07/09 I am sorry for the rate but you haven't included any personal opinion of what this is like to use yourself. |
