Advantages: Sleek, stylish and reliable.

Disadvantages: Unfortunate business with the touchpad

This computer is one of the more impressive laptops I have used in years.

First, the appearance. I opted for the plain black option, although other, rather more artsy designs are available for those who prefer something a little more aesthetically pleasing. It is sleek, sharp and eye-catching. So far so good.

Next, the tech specs. The processing power is more than sufficient for daily use with the T5800 chip; this together with the 3GB RAM means that Windows Vista is no challenge, a common problem with laptops. Don't expect to be doing very much movie-editing, however. The integrated webcam is more than adequate for skype and MSN usage, and software is included to 'snazz' images and online conversations up. The Wifi included is industry standard, so no problems there. I am a little disappointed that there were only 3 USB ports, but this is by no means an issue restricted to the Inspiron laptops, indeed, some might say that three ports are generous.

Don't expect to be doing very much gaming with the graphics card; it's integrated, so although it will cope with DVD viewing, complex and demanding CGI graphics on some more recent games are definitely out. The weight is about 5 pounds, which is pretty light for a laptop of this capacity.

The one major gripe I have with this model is the hyper-sensitivity of the touch pad. This means that it is often impossible to type without slight glances from your thumbs causing the cursor to jump around the screen. I have resorted to switching the pad off and relying exclusively on the mouse instead. This is, however, not a deal-breaker for me and is a slight disappointment with an otherwise very well-designed computer.

Summary: Great for daily use. You should buy me.
