Reliable good size screen for a laptop

I purchased the Dell 4 years ago and had the extra memory included to 3 Gb. It's a great laptop for typing and the screen is excellent. The 3 gig memory allows many windows to be open at once, many more than on my PC which has a similar memory size. The screen is clear and is very good for watching movies etc. As with most laptops one would like the battery to last longer, from full the laptop lasts only about one and a half hours before the battery needs recharging. The construction is heavy and solid though the DVD player front is very flimsy and has come off several times the drive still works however even when the front is off. I also note that the keyboard is not completely flat, it has a bump around the middle area due to the additional memory that was added when I purchased it. This doesn't really make any difference to the speed of typing or functionality of the key board. Overall I am very happy with this laptop, and expect it will last me for a few years yet.

Good if you want a laptop that suitable for lots of typing, has a high def screen and lots of space.

I bought my dell inspiron 1750 about 3-4 years ago. It was my first brand new laptop, as usually I buy second hand. My old laptop was so old that the screen was warped and strange green vine-like lines had crept across it, making it very hard to see anything. I didn't have a lot of money, only what I had saved from all my writing, and this was really the best specs I could find for the price. How is it? Considering I am still using it now, without too much bother, I'd say it's not a bad laptop at all. I know dell can sometimes get a bad reputation, but I've had very few serious issues with mine. I'm not saying it's been the best laptop possible, but it's lasted, and it is beginning to break now, but only physically. Basically the charger died, so I bought a second hand generic one, the battery wore out so it held no charge at all, so again I bought a generic and it works just fine now, and holds several hours charge. The casing is now coming off the keyboard, and I can lift it up and see inside my laptop, and the left mouse button has collapsed. All these sounds bad, but they're not. The casing and mouse problem is probably from very rough and frequent use, including using it for a meal tray. The actual laptop itself works fine. I have had to re-install windows about 3 times due to a couple of serious viruses, but that's to be expected. It still runs programs well enough, it isn't that slow like some old laptops, it still has pretty good specs and good 2GB RAM. And the screen definition is still pretty impressive. Likes I love the full size keyboard, I can't be doing with tiny keyboards while I'm trying to write. It also has the full number keypad on the right. I love that (originally) the battery life was great, and I'd get several hours charge if I decided to take it outside. I love the huge high def screen. It displays photos well and plays videos well. Oh and it's purple, which I paid a bit extra for. The speakers are great, not too quiet, and not too tinny. It has a great 300GB of space. More than enough for my needs It has 2GB ram so I can run several programs at once, without issues. Including virus scanning while researching online and typing on word. It has three USB ports, rather than just two. It doesn't burn my leg if I use it on my lap, unlike some laptops, like my last one that left physical red burns. Dislikes It's heavy, very heavy. I know I was trading screen size and keyboard size for weight, but I struggle to lift it on my bad days and it is very cumbersome to pack when I go away for the night. I had charger issues, from word go it kept telling me my charger was not recognized as an official dell charger, even though it came directly from dell. I could have called dell to sort it out, but I didn't, and it didn't seem to cause many problems. If I take it outside and it's a bit sunny, the glare on the screen can make it tough to see anything, but it's better than some. Overall I like it, there aren't many issues, and the ones it has I can deal with. It has provided me years and years of service for a reasonable price. And although one day I know I'll need to buy a new one, I hope that isn't in the near future at all, I'm quite happy with this dell!

I bought it a year ago, and love it.

I bought this a year ago to cope with my college course. It is absolutely beautiful. The system does tend to get a bit hot at high system loads, but this is expected. I love the large screen and smooth performance. There is absolutely no issues when it comes to the hardware suffering ware and tear. The system drivers are a bit difficult to find for the wireless card when you install new Operating Systems. I have used Windows and Linux, but find that windows XP is unstable. The battery has held up pretty well, but could be doing with replacement on it's third anniversary. Personally I find it high quality for the price paid, in all honesty I expected the laptop to be weak and break after a year. It comes quite a bit bloated with pointless tools such as for short keys etc. The only limitation I have found with this system is that the short keys such as for volume and brightness are not pre-set on alternate Operating Systems such as ubuntu. In summary, 8/10 for the hardware, and 9/10 for durability.

Excellent for everyday use and internet browsing.

This is a wonderful laptop to have for everyday use. It is ideal and user friendly for word processing as well as internet browsing. I have been using this laptop for nearly 6 months and have enjoyed using it. Because of its high memory, it allows the user to multi task e.g., brows, listen to music and do word processing in a completely separate window without slowing down or crashing. The buttons are very well spaced so that you do not press the wrong buttons while typing. It has good graphics and built in speakers. The very few down sides are, it is a big machine and can weigh quite a bit so carrying it around can be a bother. In addition, the battery seems to deplete after a few months usage, although mine's have been working fine, but other people have had problems with theirs. The best advice is that you can adjust how much battery power you use by setting it to DELL's recommended usage. That will give the battery a longer life.

A fast but poor quality laptop which would probably not be best suited to a clumsy person

I got the Dell Inspiron 1750 a few weeks before Christmas and I love mostly everything about it. It's big, comfortable and fast. I was impressed with the resolution of the screen and it gives a very sharp picture, this also means it's great for watching movies and viewing photos on. Before I purchased it I had a look at some reviews which said the keyboard is poor and the laptop as a whole isn't durable; I somewhat agree. This laptop is pretty powerful with a duel-core Intel Pentium processor and 4096MB of memory. I have no issues with running many programmes at once, including online games, msn, Facebook, YouTube and more all at once with zero lag. I'm also impressed with the battery life of this laptop and at around 250 minutes it offers the ability to use it on the go. I regularly use it on a 1 and a half hour train journey and back without a charge without any problems. It isn't the lightest laptop available, but unless you're legs are extraordinarily fragile you won't experience any problems. I think it weighs around 3kg. I was a little bit disappointed with only 3 USB ports on such a large laptop, and could have done with 1 or 2 more at some times, however this isn't a big negative and I expect most people could easily do with 3. The main disappointment for me is the quality of the build. Sometimes I can feel parts of it bending under minor pressure which is slightly unnerving and I would be very scared about this laptop if it was dropped. If you're clumsy this is DEFINITELY not the laptop for you because it will most likely break very easily. The keyboard is OK but takes a little getting used to and it differs from most of the keyboards I've ever experienced. At first it is hard to build up a good rhythm typing but it gets nicer. Despite the issues I've raised I do actually love this laptop and it does all that I need; the performance is great, the keypad is good once you get used to it and the on-screen quality is amazing. This said, if you're looking for something more or are very clumsy you should probably buy something that's better built. --- ALSO POSTED IN CIAO UNDER SAME NAME ---

      Great choice for the price.

My parents gave me this laptop as a birthday present. Overall, I like it a lot. The battery life is very long, the display is pretty good, and it arrived with already installed Windows 7. That was really great. And it's so lightweight! As a student at the university, I carry the computer with me where ever I go. My previous laptop was so heavy that my shoulders hurt me all the time. If you are worried about fingerprints I recommend you just to pick a different color, though, as they're quite noticeable. The only weak thing I notice is the touch pad gestures. I thought that the "pinch" zoom in/zoom out features would be quite easy but while browsing the web it would often zoom in and out on me without me doing much. But this feature can be disabled and it's great now. :) It's a great computer and well spent money. I recommend it.

      Disadvantages

not bad for the price, but you can do better!

The Dell Inspiron 1750 notebook is a bargin for the price it is asking. Although the somewhat cumbersome and large display, the 16:9 picture that is displayed on this 17.3 inch display is incredible. However, this piece of gear weights in at just under 3 kilos, making it both easy to travel with and easy to store. The display also supports full 1080p quality images and movies, which means if you're like me, you'll love this feature. Whilst you won't be able to play the latest games on this machine, watching movies, playing lower quality games and performing office work can be handled easily. This makes the Dell Inspiron 1750 a great choice for those on the move. Even simple image processing (photoshop, paintshop pro etc.) tasks are easily managed and well executed on this device with little to no difficulty encountered. The battery lasts just under 3 hours for me when im working and doing average internet surfing (news, office research etc.) which is longer than i'd expect for something with such a large display and graphics card! Overall, for the money it is ok, but there are better deals out there ... even if this does look great!

Dell Inspiron 1750 - Competent and Reliable

I have been looking at laptops for years. was going to buy a Inspiron 1750. Then I saw the 1764. The screen is bright and clear, the keyboard is easy to use and not cramped and difficult to navigate, the laptop weight is the most surprising thing to me. I thought it would be much heavier. The battery life is great, about 3 hours at full charge, with the 6 volt battery. in extend power save mode.If I had the option to choose I would have liked the 9 volt battery but it wasn't an option. The display is awesome and bright, and the fact that it already came with Windows 7 was really convenient. This laptop also very lightweight, i thought it would be much heavier! If you are a power user I would recommend the i5 processor the nine volt battery and the HD video card. For basic and power users this is a really good choice when correctly equipped. Normally Dell makes you go through a laundry list of "personalization" steps, and then it takes a long time for them to "build" it. I guess a lot of people want or need to personalize their laptops, but this one was perfect for me and I love how simple it was to buy. It's a great buy, I'd recommend it to anyone !

      A good laptop, recommended

Before deciding on what computer to buy, I checked around with my friends, asking them what brand they would recommend and had the most positive experience in using. The answer that came to me the most, was that Dell was the brand they trusted the most, and the Dell Inspiron 1750 therefore became my new computer, which I`m really pleased with to this day. All though I`m extremely content with this laptop in close to every way, the one major downfall that I have to share, is that the battery length is very poor! I can`t use this laptop without power for more than about 1.5 hour, which in my eyes is way too short! So that`s the main disappointment, and honestly the only one that comes to mind. On the brighter side, everything from setting up the laptop to learning how it works occured fast and easy, and with several programs on my laptop, every one of them runs fast and efficient, not ever slowing down or stopping completely in its process. Also, to me it seems that the laptop is made up of very solid material, cluts that I am I`ve dropped it a couple of times, and it still looks and runs as though it was brand new... I actually recommended this laptop to my grandmother, because she was looking to buy a laptop for the very first time, and seeing as this one is very easy to use and get the hang of, I figured that the Dell Inspiron really could function well for her, plus I could help her whenever she needed advice or assistance on how to figure things out. With several good and entertaining features, the standard laptop programs and a screen that makes watching DVD`s on the laptop a joy, I really couldn`t be happier with this laptop, the only thing keeping it from receiving five stars being that the battery life is too poor... A great choice still!

Having experienced it first hand, I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I am using this specific system to write this review. I study Computer Science and find that laptops usually last 1-2 months each due to the heavy load I put them under, but this beauty has been running for a solid year, 16-18 hours a day 6 days a week minimum and it is still in perfect condition. The only issue with it is the low battery life when I have the 9 cell. I would personally recommend this laptop to anyone who wants to program or watch videos etc, but the graphics are too weak for gaming. It can also work as a server very efficiently which I can vouch for a thousand times over. Only word of warning is the poor coolant system installed, you would be best buying a £30 cooling stand for this system, but over all, having experienced it first hand, I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

A great laptop that can be customised to your specific needs, easy to use.

My pink Dell Inspiron 1750 is now over a year old and has served me well from the day I received it, to this very moment! Dell was recommended to me by a friend and at first I was hesitant, not wanting to buy something so expensive over the internet, with large purchases I tend to buy in store because of the customer service. However, the service from Dell was outstanding. Delivery was very fast and setup was extremely simple, Dell had already installed all of the important software required. The laptop itself is relatively heavy, compared to other laptops, so I tend not to carry it around too far. It currently runs Vista like a dream and because I was able to customise the specification, it will stay above the requirements for most games for a few years to come! It runs all programs like a dream, rarely slowing down. As with all computers, it is important to use up-to-date ad-ware and anti-virus software to ensure smooth running. Because of this, my laptop is always running well. When I first received my laptop, I did have a few issues with software compatibility as Vista was relatively new then. Luckily, most, if not all, companies have produced software specific to Vista. I still have some compatibility problems (With my printer, mostly) but that is a software problem, not a problem with the laptop itself. Perhaps some other gripes would be the lack of installation disks from Dell, there are only recovery disks provided and Microsoft Works was lost from my brother's laptop when he had to format it as there was no disk provided for that - Dell had pre-installed it. Also, I find that the battery life is not what I would like it to be, it can last around 2 hours absolute max without mains power. I usually use my laptop as my main computer, so is plugged into the mains 90% of the time, so not a huge problem for me. A hard wearing laptop that can withstand a few bumps. I love this laptop, I think the customisation of the inner components is a brilliant idea and I would be hesitant to change it any time soon.

        I love my laptop

So here's a review on my lovely green laptop! Everybody's seen those dell adverts, the one which sticks in your mind. Lollypop lollypop ooo lolly lolly lolly lollypop! Dell ... yours is here! Well, my mum decided last year to buy me and my sister one each!! How lucky are we?! The ones shown on the advert are the Dell inspiron 15, however when looking on the website at the time we saw it wasn't much more expensive to get the inspiron 17... so we got those! The laptop cost about £430 overall after choosing our battery and software selection. We could have got matching laptop mice for a little extra however I decided we didn't really need them. It's hard to write a specific review on the 'Inspiron 1750' as every laptop is different due to dells fabulous personalise system! You can build up your own laptop from scratch, choosing the memory size, colour etc! I got the lime green and I think it is a GORGEOUS colour. In fact, my sister has the cherry red, my boyfriend bought the white and I have also seen the purple... and I still think the lime green is the most gorgeous colour out of the lot! The laptop is run with Windows Vista, which was new to me as I've only ever had windows XP, but I find the vista to be a great alternative. It's just as easy to use and I like the difference. Now for the technical bits!; .... Model- 1750 Processor- Celeron(R) Dual-core CPU T3000 @ 1.80 GHZ 1.79 GHZ Memory (RAM)- 2.00GB System type- 32 bit operating system So, there are the details for anybody who understands! I copied the details from the properties in my documents to ensure I am giving the correct information! I loved this laptop from the start; it was at a great running speed when I first got it. I've had it almost a year and I have only used de-frag once! Which I know should be done more often! My internet explorer recently started running slowly, although my boyfriend pointed out it was due to the very large amount of running items I had going! So that was sorted and I cannot fault the laptop for that at all, it was my own fault! Webcam; .... This laptop also comes with a built in webcam! Which is useless unless you use msn in my opinion. I use my webcam about once a month and it's not the best webcam. The settings on the cam can be altered depending on the lighting in the area you are in. I found the webcam usable, although not great. The laptop comes with a cam live package which enables you to alter the webcam view and add funny pictures to your camera! This is fun if you're chatting with a friend on msn and you want to add a little joke! You can use a baby, dog, cat or even an alien figure which moves when you talk or move your head! Which is pretty clever! The casing; .... Apart from the colour being lovely! I also like the combination of colours dell has used on the inside. The laptop is black around the screen, and black on the keys however silver around the keys and on the touchpad. Unfortunately the silver area tends to scratch easily! At first I thought it was a bracelet I was wearing, however I inspected my boyfriend's laptop and his has had the same wear to it. When looking at the silver areas face on, the scratches aren't very visible, however looking at them from an angle shows the marks off terribly and it's not what you're wanting when showing off your wonderful laptop to friends! I would recommend not wearing sharp bracelets when using the laptop, and avoid using sharp objects near it as I can't seem to work out what is marking my laptop. The screen; .... The screen on this laptop is a great size. At 17.3 widescreen, you can't get any better for the price! The only bad thing about having such a large laptop is that it makes it harder to carry around! I carry my laptop in a laptop sleeve from Staples and carry it in one of my large bags. The laptop is not very light at all! So if you are one for carting your laptop around, I'd recommend settling for the inspiron 15 as it would be a little lighter than this large screen inspiron 17. With the laptop comes a Mcafee laptop protection trial. I can't remember how long the trial is for, I think mine lasted around 6 month before I started getting reminders that I needed to buy laptop protection. Microsoft software also comes as a trial, a 60 day trial which meant I only got around to using the Microsoft word as the trial didn't last very long! Having these on your laptop though also means you can open Microsoft documents from emails etc. However you won't be able to save any of the documents you edit or create any new documents. I would recommend purchasing the Microsoft package either with your laptop or when your trial has expired as they are very useful, especially if you are using the laptop for work or school documents. I find the memory to be great; I've never had any problems with the storage on the laptop. I have all of my music albums saved to my laptop along with hundreds and hundreds of documents and photos! The laptop comes with a fantastic three USB points. 2 on the left and 1 to the right making it easy to plug in your USB connectors where ever you are. It also means you can have more than one USB point in use. There are also other connectors including a monitor connector, meaning you can use the laptop as a second monitor! I tried this though and didn't get it to work, although I'm not the best with laptops! There's also a CD slot on the right side which can be ejected from a button on the keypad, or by the button the side of the laptop. The button on the keypad can sometimes lag so I tend to just use the CD slot button. I've had no problems with the CD slot so far. Battery life; .... I chose the 6 cell battery with my laptop and find the battery life to be... OK. It could be better however I can live with how it is. There are three battery settings, Power saver, balanced and high performance. The high performance tends to eat your battery life so I like to keep it on the balanced unless I'm using the laptop for games or something which requires that extra boost! If I start my battery from full and have it on high performance to just use the laptop for something relaxed such as writing reviews, the battery life will last me over two hours. However I never stick to just doing one thing and I always have many things running at once! Power saver does make the battery last longer however it also slows the laptop performance down significantly. I've found the laptop overall is pretty fast. After sorting out the amount of programmes I had running at once and sorting out the amount of programmes I had on start up, my laptop performance has certainly improved! Heat; .... I've had this laptop just under a year and so far it has never over heated. It does become quite warm at times; however this only seems to be when I'm sat in bed with my laptop as the duvet soaks up the heat easily! Other than that, the laptop is quite good at keeping cool! I've never needed a cooling pad! Overall; ... I love this laptop, it's very easy to use! The colour varieties are great and I'm confident the laptop will last me a long time! I would recommend this laptop! I'll give it a 5 out of 5 as I've not had any problems with it ...so far! Thank you for reading, I also post on Ciao
