Dell Inspiron in generalNewest Review: ... up quite cheaply from eBay, computer fairs or local computer shops. The laptop itself was high-end back in the day, but now seems outdated with the pace that technology moves forward. The overall design of the laptop is pleasing on the eye, with this particular model having a blue trim around the keyboard to break up the otherwise all silver surface. The keypad and touch mouse are both easy and comfortable to use, although there's no separate numerical keypad - probably because the screen is only about 15 inches. The Inspiron can get hot quickly and doesn't have a fantastic battery life (around 2 hours), but the built-in wireless card is g... more More Dell laptops

My review is specifically about the Dell Inspiron 8600, a laptop which I have replaced with a new one, but did use for a couple of years. It's relatively old (for a laptop) meaning you can probably pick one up quite cheaply from eBay, computer fairs or local computer shops. We bought a Dell Inspiron 5160 through a deal at my father's workplace. For about the first couple of months it was fine, save for the odd freeze and squabble. Now 2 years or so later, the fans run ALL the time, so that you can't even hear the tele over it. The laptop itself grows scarily hot, with software telling us it reaches 80'c within minutes of being on. There is apparently a known fault on the 5160 range, with the fans and the heat, but Dell do not want to know. Now, finally, it has given up the ghost and a 2 year old laptop that has some good specs and should be more than capable of being used is lying next to me completely ... Read the complete review

It has been 2 years since I purchased the Inspiron 510m, further advances have been made with notebook computers such as the recent introduction of Intel core duo processors and wireless G standard. This review should still be of some help for anyone considering buying the Inspiron 510m second hand or reduced or looking for similar models from Dell. For £600 from Dell Outlet, the unit came with the following specs: Centrino (Internal wireless b + Pentium m) 14" screen DVD/CDROM 40GB HDD 512 MB ram 2.75 kg At the time this seemed like a bargain, a notebook computer with Centrino technology that was ... I have spoken to a lot of people about Dell computers (I am now on my third, and they all still work), and they seem to fall into two camps: the lovers and the haters. Now, I read the other review on this site from an expert, and I am not an expert, but I use the computer for lots of bits and pieces, and lug it with me when I travel now. The key question for me is whether it is up to the job, and does it give me any problems? In fact, I would go further, and say I love this bit of kit despite what anyone else says, and the cricitisms of the geeks. I (maybe foolishly) bought the slightly upgraded version, which came with 512Mb ram (seems to be enough for me) and ... Read the complete review
