Advantages: cheap, affordable for kids,
Disadvantages: none
a great quality robust laptop which stands the test of time.
I wanted a laptop which had the ability to both run windows xp and be able to run good old fashioned dos games when needed to. the new laptops these days will spit out an old dos game like a chewed up doggy bone.
I had the dell latitude c640 which is the pentium 4m model of this brilliant line of laptops.
it runs great, the sxga+ display worked very well when browsing the net.
the battery lasts for ages if I turn the screen brightness down.
I loved the tv out feature which enabled me to watch short clips and movies on my tv screen.
works very well in youtube, or if you are playing a computer game and want to show on an external monitor at the same time.
the great thing about the lattiude c series laptops were how easy it was to get hold of parts for them! still today, it is very easy to get hold of just about any part for these machines so it is a very good viable option to buy a latitude c610/c640 today, rather than splash out on a new laptop which won't be as good as these!
the sxga+ screen is hard to come by in newer laptops which only provide 1024x768 as a standard res.
the keyboard is very good and responsive to light touches.
I don't tend to use the trackpoint but sometimes it makes a nice change.
the touchpad is very easy to use, not too indented like some laptops, where you end up using the tip of your finger because the plastics surrounding the touchpad are raised so much and the touchpad itself is recessed so much it becomes unuseable. Not in this laptop!
Dell have been around since the dawn of the 286 computer so it is easy to trust that dell can make the best laptops in the market.
Summary: a great quality robust laptop which stands the test of time.
