The Dell Latitude is built for small business, who demands reasonable speed and reliability. The machine comes with a 3 years warranty, which is a good idea for a microcomputer. Unlike the Compaq or Sharps with only one year of service, you will not need to worry about it when it breaks down.

Let’s look at the specification of the machine: Pentium III 400 MHz processor, a bit slow for a new machine, but it will do the job for a businessman; a satisfying 64MB of RAM, now a standard; A 12.1 inch TFT monitor, a reasonable size bit a bit small nowadays; a undersized 4.8 gigabits hard-disk. I guess this is enough for a odd Word document or Power Point presentation. The battery lifetime is about an hour and half, which is a bit short of small ultra lights like the Compaq M700 of 4 hours. It includes a swappable bay for a floppy drive or a 24X CD-rom drive. This will keep the weight of the machine to about 3.5kg, but that makes more hardware to carry about.

If you are looking for a fast machine for work and games, well you are looking at the wrong thing. This machine is not that quick and is pretty heavy. I would rather go for the new series of Compaq or the reliable IBM i series.
