The standard battery will last for a solid 3 hours use, but you can upgrade to a 6 Cell battery should you need to be away from a plug socket for any length of time. Everybody seems to be looking for an ultra-portable netbook nowadays, models like the Asus EEE, MSI Wind and Dell Mini-Note have created a trend for compact, low powered devices with good battery performance. Although touted as being "cheap", I doubt that the £200 (or more!) asking price is pocket money to most. This is where the Dell X200 comes in - a fully featured laptop from 2001 which provides all the connectors and processing power found in your average netbook for a smidge of the price.
