Dell vostro 1500 - great if you don't mind the odd graphics problem (Dell Vostro 1500)

Advantages: Brlliant specification for the price

I got this laptop to take to university with me. After much searching on the internet for a good compromise between specification and price, this is the one I chose.

I don't regret buying this at all, as it has done me very well. I use it every day as my main computer, and it has also gone all over the world with me.

However it hasn't exactly been reliable, and dell haven't exactly been helpful.
The main issue is the cooling for the graphics card. Compared to the consumer inspiron version, the vostro only has one cooling pipe for the graphics card. This means that when playing some games, you get the lovely blue screen of death because the graphics card gets too hot.
I have had my laptop repaired once: they replaced everything inside it, but unfortunately it still has the same problem. Having called dell this is a known problem, but they are quite reluctant to do anything about it, and its not convenient to be taking a day off every couple of months to wait in for a dell engineer. So for now I am just having to put up with the problem.

If you can deal with the odd problem, or don't play games, then this is a brilliant buy.
