As with every computer manfacturer they have so many options and choices, change one number or letter and you have a completely different setup. I guess its a good thing for the consumer offering such a range of choices if a little baffling, and i would not recommend the advice of the high street store helpers half of whom wouldnt know a gigabyte from a megabyte. But back to this laptop ( the comparison specs for the series can be found here http://support.fujitsu-siemens.de/KnowHow/GB/Produkte/AMILO/Vergleich_Amilo_K_EL_L .htm ) I brought this as part of a package at Comet in the new year came with an average printer, one of those that is cheaper to buy a whole new printer than the ink cartridges (see my other review on lexmark p706)! It also came with a nice carry case. All for £699 Id like to think im a fairly advanced user of computers using them often for my university work and film pieces. My first instinct was wanting a high spec laptop to complement my high spec desktop. But i realised that this laptop although an entry level was more than adequate for my needs, writing essays/dissertations on the move, editing the odd small film and most important watching dvd in bed hehe ! Specs: Celeron 2.4 Ghz 256 DDR ram expandable later 40 gig hardrive combo dvd/cd-r/rw firewire and s-video out, 5x usb internal sound, modem, Lan 2hr battery life, lithium based (li-ion) ( for full specs refer to web address supplied earlier. ) comes with windows xphome works nero burning software windvd and a few other bits and pieces An average user will not really be able to tell the difference between the Celeron and a P4, or Athlon processor. it has a reasonable lcd monitor and the overall look is very nice, not to square around the edges. The finger pad is good but you have to get used to the way it works, bring your finger back down and it counts as left click ( a
lso watch out you dont lightly push the base of your palm over it as you type it can send the mouse all over the place and you end up typing in different places and after you have closed to lid to standby and open it again the finer pad can be a little tetchy and i normaly have to restart ) Im sure its weight is not the lightest available but isnt to heavy as to cause a back injury. the only real problem i have with the laptop is that the fan keeps kicking in while watching a dvd, And i find the keyboard feels like it is just overlayed and not quite integral, but works fine. Oh and the biggest niggle about any computer brought from a high street is the pre-installed software you cant get rid of !!!! drives me mad. Aol, tiscali, blah blah blah. But i can highly recommend this Laptop to a new user and even an average user. For the price i payed im more than happy !
My first ever laptop. I opted for the 2.4Ghz version. Battery expectancy, according to the blurb is 4hrs, in actuality, I got a max of 45minutes, while editing a word document. I am really disappointed in the battery life, especially when I am due to take a seven hour flight to Canada soon. The tft display is really crisp and bright, Im stunned by it. It comes with WindowsXP Home, I would have preferred XP Pro. It doesnt come with a full install disk, only a "OEM Recovery Disk", so Im more than a little disappointed by that too.
