Advantages: Low price, good graphics, good DVD re-writer

Disadvantages: Awful website, poor support, unreliable

I bought this budget laptop in JUne 2004 to take on a lengthy tour of New Zealand. The machine worked well for a while and then in August 2004 the machine started to display sporadic boot up problems. It would not boot when the power lead was plugged in but would boot under battery power every time. When the power lead was subsequently plugged in sometimes the laptop would spontaneously re-boot and on other occasions would be OK.

There did not seem to be any BIOS settings that would improve the situation and no BIOS updates have ever been issued by Fujitsu-Siemens for this model, that I am aware of.

The power management never worked properly at all and the machine would not resume from hibernation or standby and had to be manually re-booted each time. Disabling power management in the BIOS and in Windows XP did not prevent the machine going into standby/hibernation so the problem was constant.

The world-wide guarantee provided, was not valid in New Zealand so no help was available there. The problems and expense of sending this type of item back to the UK from NZ were considerable, but this was the advice given to me by Fujitsu-Siemens in New Zealand.

Basically a decently specified budget laptop spoiled by lack of support and after sales service.

Summary: A decent budget laptop spoiled by poor support and unreliable operation.
