Advantages: Sheer power, pleasing to use, overall good value
Disadvantages: Weight, Noisy, Can be warm on the leg
The Amilo D I purchased utilised the Pentium 4 2.53 ghz processor with a 15' screen. A very competent machine with an excellent ATI mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card. The screen is pretty sharp when you have got the viewing angle right. But it is not for the hard of seeing, at its best resolution the fonts are very small even when set to large. It will largely depend on what you want to use it for. Excellent for 3D gaming on the move and surfing the internet, especially on broadband where it handles video very well. With plenty of processing power it is great for multi tasking. The keyboard is nice and responsive and has 3 programmable hot keys which are very useful. Bear in mind this is a notebook and not the most portable machine on the market. If you need a machine that is going to travel a lot this is probably not for you as the weight is going to seriously lengthen your arm by the end of the day. The Amilo D needs plenty of power to keep that pentium 4 up to speed which means if you keep it away from a 3 pin socket for more than 3 hours under heavy use a blank screen awaits. Its good to listen to music via the earphone jack and is preferable to listening to the cooling fan which under heavy use can sound like a 747 jumbo taking off !! This PC is good for....People with little space for a desk top. Students who can do their coursework and do serious gaming and watch dvd's too. Not good for the buisness person who needs to do a lot of work away from a power supply.

- 22/04/05 Generally, the laptop is Good. I own the one with 2.8GHz. It is really very fast and can take a heavy load espesially for those who use a huge programs that require a large memory such as MATLAB. The only problem is (Very big manufactural probrem) that it becomes extremely warm and sometimes very hot on the down left region (Hard Disk area). This is really not simple and let me feel sometimes that I need to wear a gloves!!!!. I suggest that next time SIEMENS Company will design the machine in such a way that the battery will be in the down right (as it is now) and the DVD R/W be in the down left, by doing that we can garantee that the user will not suffer by putting his hand on any HOT area during work. I sent my laptop two times to the service to solve that problem and each time it took three weeks with no real solution (it is under warrenty and insurance) but the problem still there!!!!. Finally I open the cover myself and I insert a dielectric material under the cover (in the down left). Now, It is OK, but still sometimes I feel the heat!!!
The processor is really fast and can take a huge load without hanging, I think that Matlab workers will understand me well.
