Advantages: Reliable, suits basic needs
Disadvantages: Gets hot, is noisy, short battery life (2 hours-ish)
This is very much a low-end laptop with only a basic spec and generic casing. It is, however, from Fujitsu Siemens which is a big-name brand which I have always found reliable in the past.
I bought this laptop about a year ago and it has been suitable for all my needs which have occasionally included Photoshop and video editing. So although this is a basic laptop I have found that it is capable of performing intensive tasks if necessary.
The keyboard is very comfortable for typing on. I don't have much experience with laptop keyboards but this seems easy to type on too me. In fact I'm using it to type this!
With the display I again have little to compare to, but I believe it is about average. It is 15.4 inches, and has a resolution of 1280x800. It is not as bright as I'd like, and the contrast ratio is nothing special, but it does it's job and is perfectly acceptable.
I have had a few problems/complaints though. Firstly, this is a very loud laptop. The fan is very noisy - especially when it is running at full pelt. I do not mind this too much when at home, but I don't think I would ever take anywhere somewhere like a library.
It is also prone to creaking noises which I believe to be due to the low(ish) quality case. Pressing down hard on the right hand side of the case usually solves the problem for a while, but this is hardly acceptable even if it is a low-end laptop. This isn't a big problem, but more like an annoyance. I suppose you do get what you pay for.
After about 3 or so hours of use the laptop will get very hot on the right hand side (I think this is where the CPU is). I once had he laptop on all evening and it heated up the whole room! Saves on heating bills I guess...
Battery life I have found is not good. I rarely find that get more than 2 hours out of a fully charged battery, so make sure you are near a plug socket!
This is a bit of a 'you get what you pay for' laptop. It has no really impressive features, and it has a few problems. But it is very reliable and I would recommend at a low price point.
I am aware that there are many different specs around for this laptop, so I'll put mine here so you know exactly what I'm reviewing.
AMD Sempron Processor 3200+ (1.6GHz)
ATI Radeon Xpress 200M Series (onboard graphics)
120GB Hard Drive
15.4" LCD display (1280x800)
Inbuilt wireless adapter
As I said, I believe there are many variations of this so always check what you are buying!
Summary: This is a laptop that doesn't do anything speical, but it hasn't failed me yet.
